DECEIVED (1991)
Director: Damian Harris
Starring: Goldie Hawn, John Heard, Ashley Peldon
A pretty damn good mystery thriller. I hadn't seen this movie in ages, in fact, I always get this flick mixed up with SHATTERED, but anyway, I checked it out again tonight and it came through...gangbusters!
A good set-up, a decent mystery, a strong performance from Hawn (yup, she doesn't just "bubble up" on screen like she does nowadays), a couple of cool twists and turns, boo scares that worked and I for one, enjoyed pretty much all of it.
Granted, with a title like DECEIVED, the film certainly isn't hiding the fact that there is obviously some kind of deception going on (real smart, guys!), but even with that, the film was directed and played well enough for me to involve myself pretty much the whole time. Actually, that's not entirely true.
The ending was probably a little too over-the-top for my taste, and I certainly could've done without all of that running (reminded me a little bit of the conclusion to THE CROSSING GUARD-- stop running, dammit!)
But I did like John Heard (the dad from HOME ALONE) as the husband, who seemed to have a very nasty habit a la STEPFATHER, and the score, which was used effectively during the more tense scenes.
All in all, a good mystery popcorn chewer to twirl your pinkie-toe to during the winter months. Goldie...baby...what happened?
