STARRING:
Jim Carrey
Taylor Momsen
Molly Shannon
Christine Baranski
and Anthony Hopkins as The Narrator

I got my Entertainment Weekly this week and saw their "F" grade for The Grinch but even that didn't stop me from renting it. I was curious and I needed a movie to get me in the mood for Christmas. So did it work?

Well, no, it didn't!!!

Don't get me wrong, it really wasn't too bad but it's definately not a classic and I was disappointed.

I didn't enjoy Jim Carrey at all in this movie. Holy Shit, he completely OVER ACTED, his performance was WAY over the top and he actually annoyed the hell out of me. It may not be his fault exactly, that's probably what the script called for, but it still got on my nerves. They definately did a good job at making me hate the Grinch, and I didn't feel sorry for him. And in the end when he was supposed to have changed he still kind of acted like an ass hole and still annoyed me. Another problem with the movie was the Who's, OH MY GOD did they look like shit, I hated the way they looked, they were so ugly. Why couldn't they just look like normal people? And the way some of them acted also got on my nerves.

So, what did I like about the movie? Well, I loved Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen), she was so cute and I loved when she was singing "Where Are You Christmas," how cute was that? I also loved the look of the movie, it looked really cool. And even though Molly Shannon and Christine Baranski didn't have much to do in the movie, just them being there was good enough for me, I like them both.

Now, despite a few little boring parts and Jim Carrey acting like an idiot, the movie was interesting enough to watch and to recommend. It didn't really get me into the Christmas spirit or anything, but it was still a decent flick.

Grade: 6/10

Well I liked it. I thought Jim Carrey was hilarious. The makeup effects are excellent and the movie has a nice message to go with it too. Best of all, while the ending is certainly sentimental, it doesn't get so overly schmaltzy the way Liar Liar did.
Grade: B

I loved this movie in theaters and liked it on video...I think it's a good Christmas movie for kids and adults...But it is kinda long and a few scenes are just plain dumb...

I hate this movie so much. It was on my top 5 worst list for last year. It is so corny and over-done. The atmosphere is not there. The sets and makeup are great, but the movie was just missing the Grinchy feel. Jim Carrey went way too far over the top and Taylor Momsen was nauseating. The ending was so amazingly bland. I just hate all the characters and turned my nose up at the movie as a whole. This movie plain sucks.

Wow Mike I think for the third or fourth time we see eye to eye on a movie. But before I go any further let me just say the biggest let down wasn't the movie it was the fucking dvd and the fact that is was Fullscreen Not Widescreen Argggh! One of the highlights of this film were the sets and scenery, especially the infamous sleigh scene atop the mountain, And we were all forced to See it in Shitty Fullscreen.

Anyway... I don't think Carrey was so much over the top. I think what bothered me more was how often his jokes missed the mark http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif I don't think the words Jim Carrey and over the top belong in the same sentence. They are more or less a given. The chracter of Cindy-Lou was very adorable and I also dug the whole little Grinch character and sub plot. I also liked the common link between Christine Baranski's character, Cindy-Lou and the Grinch. (for those who need it splelt out they were the only Who's who looked human, and thus were actually the outcasts.)

Overall the Grinch just gets a passing grade from me based on decent acting, good scenery, and c'mon how cool was Max the dog! And lets not forget the Grinch costume people.

Well, being that it's that time of the year again, I thought I would bump this thread up...

I loved this movie. I can see why people didn't like it but I liked it. Jim Carry is the perfect Grinch. It was well made and had amazing visual effects. The Grinch make-up was very good too. 8/10

I've read reviews at IMDB where folks said stuff like....

This movie RUINED a classic cartoon!!!!!!

PLEASE... remove the pole from your hole... I say....

Huh???? I got news... I went back and rented the cartoon.. as a kid I was impressed.. as an adult.. 'eh.... so, so... BUT.. what Ron Howard has created here is an INSTANT holiday Classic! He has taken a 24 minute cartoon and infused it with a backstory & LIFE! Amazing visual effects and a really sweet child actress, along with a PHENOMENAL performance... if "slightly" over the top from Jim Carrey, help flesh out and round out a one dimensional cartoon and make it something GREATER than it originally was. 8/10

Indiana Sev was right when he chalked this one up in the Crappy X-Mas movies list. A total insult to the story of Dr. Seuss, with abysmal new plotlines and "jokes".

I totally agree.

Even a worse piss on Giesel's grave was Cat in the Hat. Sure, Grinch was bad, but Cat in the Hat was an abomination of the highest order and makes Grinch look like A Christmas Story.

Ugh. I dislike this movie so much. It was too long, and none of the scenes were interesting. Boring and plain. However there were some good jokes by Jim, and Jim was perfect as the Grinch.

This movie grew on me more and more with every viewing. At first I was sort of turned off by it, probably since I was expecting a scene by scene rendition of The original source material which was stupid of me to begin with but then the kids at my job would always want to watch it and I found myself laughing over and over again with the movie. Jim Carrey once again proves he has acting chops of steel with this flick. He carries it like noones business and the movie greatly benefits from his pizazz. Ace movie and a now holiday favorite of mine!

Corny, boring, stupid, pointless, overacted. I hated this movie and Jim Carrey annoyed me. I also hated that little girl. A terrible christmas movie.

What I love about the movie is the set design, it is AWESOME. There are some corny/cheesy/stupid jokes and scenes, but an awesome and beloved christmas story redone. One of my fav. christmas movies.
