Well, Superman (Christopher Reeve) has been playing God for about a decade now, making world-changing decisions at his own leisure...so why not enter the nuclear arms race? Touched by a boy's letter expressing worry about a potential nuclear war, Superman gathers all of the nuclear weapons in the world, stuffs them into a GIANT NET, and tosses them into the Sun. But in the meantime, Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman) has broken out of prison, and his scheme to defeat the Man of Steel now involves the creation of Nuclear Man, a reject from the Sigfreid & Roy show with badass fingernails and a crude "N" strapped over his sternum. Has Superman finally met his match? Will Superman/Clark Kent finally stop brainwashing Lois Lane (Margot Kidder)? Will Gene Hackman ever learn when enough is enough?

SUPERMAN IV: THE QUEST FOR PEACE is the BATMAN & ROBIN of the '80s; a piece of dung that killed a great franchise for good. Nobody's having fun in this tired and useless sequel, save for Hackman. The story is preachy and not as involving, fun, or action-packed as the previous SUPERMAN movies. But the worst of all are the "special effects", which consist of the same shot of Christopher Reeve flying towards the camera and a really bad-looking repair of the Great Wall of China, and the huge friggin' leaps in logic (I get that Superman can fly in space at his leisure and survive, but when he rescues a human being in space, when the girl ISN'T WEARING A SPACE SUIT, AND SHE LIVES LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED...). Excuse my behavior, I'm mad...

Then again, if you'd seen SUPERMAN IV and how badly it trashes the good name of Superman, DC Comics, and Warner Bros., with its flat villain, flat performances, flat direction, and bad special effects, you'd be ticked off too.

What a dumb, cheap movie. The sad part is, Reeve went into it with nothing but the very best of intentions. (he shares story credit too)

I don't understand why Cannon, of all studios, was entrusted with this project. What was Warner thinking when they sold them the rights?!!?!??!?!
