www.aintitcool.com (http://www.aintitcool.com) just posted a first review of Harry Potter and it's very enthusiastic. Of course it's hard to say how trustworthy this review is, but the comments on the 20-30 minutes of footage shown several times in the summer were also very positive. And they will start shooting the sequel in couple of weeks, so they obviously believe in the film very much.
I was always a little worried of what Chris Columbus was going to turn this into, but it seems, from little word of mouth from screenings and from pictures and trailers i have seen, that he has approached it in a very mature fashion.
The atmosphere of the film looks spot on, the casting seems very good indeed, the special effects for the most part look ok, although i have seen the odd underwhelming effect in the latest trailer (I haven't read the books, but that staircase sequence looks fabulous).
Overall, it looks to be a very worthy film indeed, but i shall reserve judgement until November.

I'm very happy that the buzz is good. I mean the books are just so damn good and fun, you wouldn't wanna see a movie fuck it up like that. But, I have faith that they did a good job. Chris Columbus is a really good director, Steve Kloves (who wrote Wonder Boys) is a really good screenwriter and they consulted J.K. Rowling (the author of the books) on a lot of the film. Which is always cool.

I'm only half way through the first Harry Potter book right now, but I'm already guessing the movie will be great. The book is good so far.

The books were great. The movie will be too.
I mean, did you just see the trailers? Good special effects, good looks to it, good music, and the characters look right like you would've imagined them.
And I think the movie got a PG-13 rating, didn't it? So maybe this time Chris Colombus did make a "real" movie...

Actually it's PG. But the first book doesn't really have any violence in it, or so I have heard...

No it doesn't, it seems that the violence gets more graphic as the books roll along. I bet that by the end of the last one there'll be a big bloodbath and everyone will be dead.
The Harry Potter books are fun but I find them incredibly depressing. I know a lot disagree but I hope Chris Columbus can make it kind of happy but not goofy and sappy and weird. I'd like to see it come out like the first Star Wars back in 1977.
