I just finished watching this movie for the 1st time, and I know tons of people hate it. For some reason, I liked it, a lot. I guess it's due to the fact that I am almost exactly like Paul in this film. For once in my life I saw a character in a film who I can really identify with and I think thats a reason why I liked it so much. Warning, spoilers coming up!!!! I can identify with Paul because im pretty much the same guy, like I said. Like Paul, I get used and taken advantage of. I get the feeling people like me when they don't. I get lied to and treated like shit, just for being nice. I fall in love with beautiful girls who have no idea how I feel about them, they just see me as a perfect friend. Im the guy who sits in the corner of the lunchroom, alone, and eats his lunch. Im the guy, like Paul, that goes out and gets a pizza and a movie, and then somehow ends up being the only one to watch it and eat it.
This movie has really made an impact on me, and only 2 or 3 other films have done that. I've decided that like what Paul did with Noah or Adam or Chris, whichever guy that was, Im gonna take a stand against people like them. I have never been so depressed while watching a film like I was tonight, but somehow, I have this feeling that if I somehow turn my life around like Paul did towards the end, by telling off his teacher and beating that guy up, things will get better. Once again, I want to mention that while most people hated this film, it really touched me, emotionally that is. Very, very good film. 9 out of 10.

At first I was thinking "whoa, a 9/10, are you nuts." But then after reading your review I know why. Sometimes a person can see a movie that everyone hated and end up loving it. Because the movie hits close to home. And even though everyone hated it you just can't help but love it because you can relate to it. I could relate to LOSER a some because I was in love with my best friend who was in love with someone else. So I really felt for Paul when he got that pizza and a video and then she went off with the other guy. That was actually really sad. I know how that feels. So I could relate to it based on that level and unlike almost everyone else I too really enjoyed the flick. It was surprisingly really sweet and romantic. Not really a comedy at all and certainly nothing new but still a really good teen movie that was pretty charming. Jason Biggs and Mena Suvari were excellent and really cute together.

I own the movie and I must say it was one of the better teen romance comedies to come out in awhile at the time.

On the teen movie scale LOSER rates as a 8/10 in my book.

Good review, but unfortunately I disagree. The movie had barely any interesting or original material, the plot was the same as every other teen comedy to come out recently, and sure, some characters like Paul were extremely likeable but I found the movie to be too hokey and tired. Just rent American Pie again.

LOSER - 5/10

Thats probaly the most depressing but yet surreal review I have ever read, Shit you did better then I could and I write reviews for my City Newspaper!!! Good Job... I am Impressed with your review, it touched my heart because I to Have been feeling a bit Depressed Lately (although i'm staring to get over it) anyway if anyone cares, here's my story: Well it all started about 2 weeks ago, I started to really like this girl I work with, so you know I ask her out, she says yes, and I'm the happiest man on earth, but the next day she completely ignored me, she kept this up for about a week until she finaly desided to talk to me, so we talk, she says The reason why she ignored me was because I moved to fast and scared her. and I completely understood that..... then she says that she just wants to be friends, I'm like ok thats fine, she also said she did not want to date anybody she works with because of past heartbreak.. But the next day I find out that she is Totally obsessing over this other guy at work, and it hurt me it really did, It made me feel like I was'nt good enough for her and just that thought sent me into a world of depression, I refused to talk to anybody because I thought that if I wasn't good enough for her then I'm not good enough for anybody, I basicly built this wall around me, one that didnt alow anybody in and didnt alow me to get out, basicly everyone I talk to now is just another brick in the wall i built, I mean this really hurts me because she led me to belive she was interested, but she lied to me, Even though I am slowly recovering from this, I still feel the pain of heartache, because at this point the only person i want to be with is her....... I hope that when she comes back to work she will talk to me, and be my friend......... http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif, very sad story.... anyway I thought Loser was pretty entertaining and gave it a 6/10.....

Well, I feel where you are coming from. The thing is that -- by itself -- this movie isnt really good at all. Rather than being funny (which was its main intention) it just makes you feel depressed because of the incredibly under-developed plotline. They put a few nerd jokes and a few overnight sensations and expected us to be content with the result? I give this movie a 4/10 because: it was a sorry comedy the plot was under developed considering it was supposed to be a comedy, it totally misses its mark.

Id like to agree with you jackson, but I cant. I recommend that you see Ghost World and Panic...you might like them. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

I write for a Little Newspaper in Sioux Falls it's not the main paper but the whole city see's it.. I have been doing that now for about8 months it all started when I sent them a review I wrote awhile back about Men Of Honor and they liked it and asked me if I could do a few reviews for them, and of course I said yes, because it allows me to see the movies before they Open and write my review after I see it and then give it to the editor and he prints it in the paper, and most people in my city like my writings, because they give so much about the movie itself other then me just saying "Oh it was great, I loved it" they say my reviews have depth and they are true to the story, most of the films I give review's to usally do pretty well here, cause the people want to see if I'm right, and the film's I give a mediocore or bad review for usally dont do to well..... I have gained alot of respect in my city mainly because of the reviews and also about this screenplay (which won best story/screenplay at the city's annual event honoring upcoming screen writers, the screenplay is titled "The Street's of L.A." it tells the story of a young teenager who gets involved with drugs and the wrong people at a young age of 15 who's trying to escape the pressure of the street's of L.A. and turn his life around before it's to late for him......

Well guys, I'm glad that my pathetic little life has garnered such response to my review. Mike and Dicaprio, I thank you for your comments on my review and understading where I'm coming from. My 1st thought when I wrote the review was "people are gonna think im nuts". Luckily that hasn't really happened yet. But to let you guys better understand where im coming from, let me give you a sypnosis of a day in my life. 6:45 wake up time. 7:30 out the door for school. 7:40 arrive at school 20 mintues early (in order to get a good parking spot). 7:55 1st hour starts, I sit in the back corner and talk to no one because, well, no one cares if I do or not. 9:10 2nd hour starts, see details of 1st hour. 10:20 3rd hour starts, same story. 11:00 4th hour starts, its a co-ed gym class, im the only one in class who isn't on a sports team, im ignored bitterly. 12:10, lunch, I sit in the corner, alone, and drink a bottle of water. 12:50, 5th hour starts, study hall, I go to the library and read newspapers for the entire 70 minutes. 2:10, 6th hour, I sit in front, dont talk again cause no one cares. 3:15, schools over, go to work at the office until 5, come home, do whatever homework I have, watch t.v. or movies, go to bed around 11:30. Next day, same thing.
When I watched this movie, I saw someone with almost the exact same life. Paul gets up and goes to school, and no one could care less if he's there or not, except for the girl he secretly loves. Paul gets treated like shit, just because he's a nice guy and cares about other people (just like me). Paul eats alone in the cafeteria. Paul comes home from school and goes straight to the homework. Paul watches movies and television and eats alone. I swear, Amy Heckerling looked at my life and decided to make a movie called "Loser" and got Jason Biggs to star. Kudos to you Jason, you succesfully mirrored my life on film, now how bout a share of the profits?
I'd like to apologize if my life is depressing others when they read about it. I'm just still stuck on the fact that for the 1st time ever, I found a movie that mirrors my life, and I can't stop dwelling on that fact.
Dicaprio, as for you saying my review is better than your reviews and you write for a paper, well, as the saying goes "Nice guys finish last", I applied for a job as movie critic for our towns newspaper and the guy completely ignored my application. I'm glad someone appreciates my work. Thank you.

You liked it because you're a sucker for baseball movies? Well I never saw it thank God, but from what I've heard there's more romance than actual baseball. Maybe you're a sucker for TEEN ROMANCE MOVIES?

By the way Jackson, don't get down on yourself, you aren't the only one who is going through this. Once you get out of your shitty school, hopefully things will get better for you, I'm sure they will.

LOL Mike! I think he means that you shouldn't have said "whoa 9/10 are you nuts" when you gave the movie an 8/10 yourself.

The movie on a whole is only worth a 7/10 but for a teen movie I'll give it an 8/10. Just because it was actually really good for a teen movie and Jason Biggs and Mena Suvari had great chemistry. And I don't think that's what he means. I think he's saying that because I gave Pearl Harbor a 10/10.
