I just picked up Red Dawn the other day on DVD. When this movie first came out me and my friends had it all planned out how we'd hide in my grandparents wood from the Russians and pick them off on at a time. I mean back in the day this movie as the absolute shit. At that time i'd rate this movie like a 15/10.

Nowadays though like most other 80's action flicks it doesn't stand the test of time that well. It's still a very solid film though. It's stars Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Jennifer Grey, Lea Thompson, and most importantly C. THomas Howell. It's about a group of high schoolers who hide out in the mountains after Cuba and Russia invade the united states. They call themselves the Wolverines after their school mascot and blow russian stuff up.

I was surprised at how intense it was. I don't think it could ever me made now in the post-Columbine era. It's now the ultimate sin to have anyone under the age of 20 shooting a weapon. There's also a scene where they kill a dear and drink it's blood. PETA would be all over that in a heartbeat.

7.5/10

I have to chime in on this one! I've always loved this movie...I have it on video and have seen it many times, also catch it on TNT from time to time...like bmain said it does seem very intense and often times it is quite brutal in its depiction of "WW3"...Americans in front of the firing squad, and the guys killing one of their own after he has lead the Russians to their hide out, etc. The cast always intrigued me...Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen and C. Thomas Howell in particular.

Anyway it's one of my favorite action films from the 80's and although a bit dated, still worth the watch...8/10

This film seemed to strike a chord with any guy growing up in the 80's. Like bmain, my friends and I had our plans on where we would hide out to gang up on the Russians based on what we saw in this film. I don' think the film was touting the glory of insurrection but that's what we all got out of it at the time.

I just couldn't get over how bleak the film was. The landscape added tremendously to the feel of the film. Bland, colorless, cold land helped give you the feeling of helplessness the kids must have been feeling.

The action scenes were solid. Not your high dollar special effects, but plenty of shootings and explosions. Like the others, I found it to be more intense than I remembered...and an interesting film to be watching considering what is going on in the world right now.

The acting was passable but nothing memorable. Good cast, bad dialogue. It will never be a film classic, but it's a solid little film worth checking out (even if you do so on TBS or TNT). 7/10 sounds bout right.
