Harry Potter, the books are great. LOTR doesn't really interest me as much, but I might see that anyway... then to answer your question..

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

I GOTTA see both of them. I'd say expectation wise, that they are pretty equal between the two. One is opening sooner, and the other is opening later, but I'm trying not to get my expectations are up so high. This will better my reaction of the films and if they were to be disappointing, I won't be as disappointed.

If you've seen what I've already written about Harry Potter, you'll clearly understand that I am DEFINITELY not going to be seeing it and that I will DEFINITELY see LOTR.

FUCK Harry potter. Fuck that little gay boy. I WONT see it, cuz I think this is a gay conspiracy, just like pokemon, digimon, teletubbies, jarjar binks, ben Laden, whatever...

Man I feel worried for the people who spend their time calling a ten year-old fictional boy gay. Someone said the same thing under Mike's Post in current movie talk too.

Stop using the word "gay" as something insulting. You'd think humanity would be past that...

One Ring to Rule Them All

Just like to add, that LOTR is definately finished and that the final print is locked. The master prints are already on American shores.

Than maybe they should release that damn movie a month earlier, because I dont feel like waiting. Screw Harry Potters gay ass; Lord of the Rings all the way.

The Other

We will all just have to see when the final Box Office numbers for the two films come in. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif

But, I must say I do wish people would stop comparing the two films. Okay, they fit into the fantasy genre...but they are different films. We need to give this shit a rest. lol

For me, it is the opposite, LOTR were great books and Harry Potter doesnt really interest me.
The thing is that LOTR his an older clasic so I pretty sure it will be better. Harry Potter is just a 90's popular book, I'm not saying it is bad 'cause I haven't read it yet but I'm sure LOTR is a lot better.

Im pretty sure that this little fag will be just as annoying as jedi-wannabe anakin in the phantom menace (he was gay too).

Harry Potter has been advertised to be a children's film. For that reason, I have been turned off from the start.

LOTR on the other hand looks to be as much an adult film as it is a film for kids. I think that hit the points that Harry Potter should have at least attempted to hit.

Therefore, I will definitely pass on Harry Potter (unless if there are overwhelmingly good reviews) and I will definitely see LOTR. It was a good move to put Harry Potter before LOTR because it will get its chance to milk as much as it could in the month headstart it has given itself. Hopefully that wont put a dent into LOTR.

Absolutely, unequivocally, the Lord of the Rings. The books are better than Harry Potter (but HP is an enjoyable set of books, just not on the grand literary scale as LOTR). Harry Potter is the second most-looked forward to movie for me (boy, was that awkward).

Abstain from using terms such as "gay" and "fag" to insult people in these boards, my friend.

Really, I'm with Heart Collector, there really is no need to use derogatory remarks to get your point across...All you need to do is say I wanna see blah blah blah and not blah blah blah. Or something like that.

It's "gay" to call a fictional character "fag" or "gay"...(Unless it's C3P0 http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif)

I just downloaded the Enya track on the LOTR album - May It Be, it is a beautiful, haunting, song and will probably play through the credits sequence, i think it would seem out of place anywhere else. If you want to hear it, goto theonering.net, they have links to yahoo.

If The Lord of the Rings looks "bad", then what meets your requirments for a good film?

And I guess the several gay people who frequent this board find those terms absolutely charming.

So, since Harry & little Anakin are annoying they are automatically gay? I don't follow...
Oh, and to stay on topic, I'm looking forward more to LOTR (I think it looks a bit more adult, though I have high hopes for HP as well).

I think you'll see quite a competition betweent Potter and LOTR.
I mean there will be SOOOOOOOO many kids wanting to see Harry Potter...and some adults aswell, then there will be the intellectual and literate ones who will be looking foward to the release of the LOTR.
From one of the greatest books ever written, how can you not look foward to this more than Harry Potter?

Tuukka

I think that LOTR is going to benefit greatly of Harry Potter's succes. HP is going to make at least 350 million worldwide (at minimum). As far as I know, there is going to be a LOTR trailer in EVERY copy of Harry Potter, which is very smart marketing. Harry Potter is a family film and will reach a very wide demographic. If people like Potter (and they probably will, the buzz is very good), it will make them hungry for another big fantasy film. Basicly every person over 13 who wants to see Harry Potter is a very potential viewer for LOTR.

No, I'm not, actually. I don't see why that would have to do with it. I'm just telling you because the rules about stuff like that in this board are pretty strict.

pofcorn - I strongly suggest you stop degrading this decent topic (and people) if you don't want a warning or a ban from Joblo.

I'd also like to add, on a very positive note: I just bought this month's edition of Empire film magazine here in the U.K, and there's a small snippet featured that goes like this, of LOTR:

Sir Ian McKellen, who revealed exclusively to Empire that he'd recently asked Peter Jackson about the movie. "Jackson simply replied, 'Ian, i have made the film i wanted to make'", reveals McKellen. Which, fact fans, is about as close to Jackson saying, "It's shit hot" as can be.

I'm gonna have to take "gay ass" harry potter as my pick. I liked the book, and the preview looked pretty good. On the other hand, i have not read LOTR, and i was indifferent to the trailer.

By any chance, do you know the meaning of the word "joke"? I was just having some fun, thats all! Dont make a big fucking deal about that!

I just realizd that i didnt reply to the topic properly. I havent read neither the harry's books nor the LOTR books, but I saw both trailers. Harry looks like a children movie while LOTR looks like a kickass movie.

Harry Potter doesn't seem very interesting to me. I never read the book and it just seems childlike. I'm dying to see LOTR though. I loved the Hobbit and I'm half done with the Fellowship of the Ring now. And the trailer looks pretty cool, too. I'll be in the theater the opening night.

Lord of the Rings of course. The Harry Potter-film is more of a kids' movie. Besides that, I've never read any of the Harry Potter books and it seems to me that it's better to read the book first before seeing this film. I have read the Lord of the Rings trilogy and I find it excellently written.

Well, I've read all the "Harry Potter" books and to be honest, they're the best hings I've ever read. The first film was very good but far from amazing (8/10). So, TTT will sure be great as it's a continuation for the first movie which was amazing (9/10)/

I'll see TTT for sure. But I'm more excited about Harry Potter. so my anser is:
THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS

Let me think about this....... not lol

My Vote Goes To:

Harry Potter

No suprise im a big fan. Ill most likely see LOTR Two Towers, if i dont fall asleep lol jk. The first one was ok (6/10, 7/10)

Anyway

HP COS IS GONNA BE THE BEST THE BOOK IS GOOD!

I'll be seeing both, in fact I've already purchased tix for Harry Potter for Nov 16th; but I'm far, FAR more excited about the Two Towers.

To me, the Harry Potter films are very good popcorn fluff, but the LOTR trilogy will go down as one of the great achievements in cinema history.

I'd love to say both, but since that'd be cheating the ultimate question in this topic, I will say Potter. I just like it more. I think the first Potter film is superior to LOTR a bit and I think Chamber of Secrets looks more exciting. While I am dying to see both, I am just more excited for Potter.

Man, this thread is old. Looking back on it all, FOTR, in my opinion, was slightly, slightly better. Slightly. But I think that Chamber of Secrets looks better than TTT, for some reason.

Harry Potter. I like LOTR, but HP has more humor among the drama, which I find very entertaining. LOTR is almost pure drama, so it drags for me.

I don't know why some people write off HP as a "kids" movie. You obviously have not read the books. They were not written for kids and they are getting darker and more complex by each book.
