The film's plot focuses on New York Mayor John Pappas(Al Pacino)and his mayoral aide, Kevin Calhoun(John Cusack)who must deal with all the corruption surrounding New York City.
Well, this film fascinated me in some ways. I was genuinely interested in this tale of scandal, cover-up, and most importantly, corruption. And I found how the characters get through this interesting as well.
Acting-wise, it was pretty damn good. Al Pacino was his usual self, great. But I think the film's main star is John Cusack, who was brilliant, if I might add. You would think it would be the other way around, but IMO, it isn't. John Cusack is the character the film really focuses on.
My one and only, but major complaint is the way everything was solved towards the end. I thought it was done in a messy way, and there were some questions that were left unanswered. The film's final act could have been handle a bit better.
City Hall isn't a great film, it is merely a good film that will entertain, that's all. I've seen better films that deal with this kind of material, but due to the solid performances, City Hall is worth a look.
Running Time:1 hour 51 minutes
