Wow,
I just saw this movie again last night, I had loved it in the late 80's early ninties when I was much younger.
I had not seen it for a good 8-10 years so I decided to see whether i still enjoyed it as much as when i was a kid......and whoh.
I dont remember it ever being that funny! i tottaly dug the humour, the pure cheesiness of it....wow!
I was just thinking if anyone else thought this movie was brilliant!
also can anyone tell me if it is available on dvd, if so is it worth getting????

I LOVE Heathers and think it is the best thing since the invention of toilet paper.

Although I would not rate HEATHERS 10/10 - I certainly to like, and own, the movie. Man, when it first came out though I thought I was Christian Slater, "Greetings and salutations" (in that almost nasaly Nicholson-like voice he was using...) Anyway, I'd rate this 8/10 - or thereabouts. One of Winona's better roles for sure, and the commentary on teenage peer pressure and parental neglect - hilarious.

Definitely a keeper, although I would tend to side more with SirReel on this one, an 8/10 or something. The BEST thing about this film though were its many hilarious lines. The dialogue was slicker than slick. Some of my favorites (taken from the IMDB):
Kurt Kelly: Hey Ram, doesn't this cafeteria have a no fags allowed rule?
Jason Dean: Well, they seem to have an open door policy for assholes though don't they?
-------
J.D.: This is Ohio. If you don't have a brewski in your hand you might as well be wearing a dress.
-------
Veronica's dad: Will someone tell me why I smoke these damn things?
Veronica: Becasue you're an idiot.
Veronica's dad: Oh yeah, that's it.
-------
Veronica Sawyer: This may seem like a really stupid question...
Jason Dean: There *are* no stupid questions.
Veronica Sawyer: You inherit 5 million dollars the same day aliens land on the earth and say they're going to blow it up in 2 days. What do you do?
Jason Dean: That's the stupidest question I've ever heard.
---------
And my personal favorite:
Kurt's Dad: My son's a homosexual, and I love him! I love my dead gay son!

Really well done teen flick. Ranks as one of my favorites of the 80s
Well Heathers is number 7 on my top 10, so you can guess the general tone of this review. It's a great film.
As Joblo pointed out the great strength of Heathers is it's dialogue, clever, funny satire at it's very best.
Christian Slater's performance (unfairly seen as Jack Nicholson lite)made, and defined, his career into the 90's and it remains his best role (though Clarence comes close). Dan Waters' scipt does Slater a lot of favours, how can you not establish your character well when one of your first lines is:
Kurt Kelly: Hey Ram, doesn't this cafeteria have a no fags allowed rule?
Jason Dean: Well, they seem to have an open door policy for assholes though don't they?
Ryder is also good, though her performance is not up to the standard set by Slater. She too is aided by the script which grants her far more intelligence than most films do their female lead.
Glenn Shadix gets to have a lot of fun as the priest presiding at the various funerals in the story.
Some of the cultural referances have dated badly (always a problem with 80's movies) and Big Fun are not exactly big news these days but no matter. The film has some serious points to make about suicide and it does this well while making us laugh (Veronica shooting JD's finger when he flips her off is a great moment).
This was the first feature by Michael Lehmann and what a fall from grace he had. Hudson Hawk came next.
Heathers is the best teen movie ever made, perhaps even more relevant now, in a post-columbine society, than when it was made.
10/10
Note: The has been talk of a sequel. This may just be the worst idea in history.
SPOILERS
JD blows himself up at the end of the movie. When you blow up the best character in your film you do not make a follow up.

This movie is very funny, and poignant.
Personally I was upset that people blamed The Matrix over Columbine, and no one mentioned Heathers. (Just Kidding... Mostly)

I love this film, too. It's on top of my "extremely quoatable flicks" list. Yes, the "I love my dead, gay son" line had me literally on the floor, I was dying from laughter.
Heathers was the second best film of 1989; Do the Right Thing beat it, but just barely.

Wow, I have been in such a "Heathers" fix lately, I even made a fan site.
I just love everything about this flick. I wish people made movies like this still.

What's the big deal about Heathers? I mean sure it's kind of cool to watch these high school bitches get capped off one at a time, but it takes itself a little seriously and has Christian Slater doing a bad Jack Nicholson.

One of my favorite 80s movies (ranking at #4). I have to give it a 9/10, almost a 10/10.
