Surf on over to www.imdb.com (http://www.imdb.com) and click on the Movie/TV news section--studio briefing. A small section of that column features quotes from different German newspapers which call "Enemy at the Gates" a "bitter disappointment" and a pitiful opening to the festival (amongst other non-flattering things).
This *really* surprises me, since I've read how pumped up the European media has been to date about this film. Enemy has received such wonderful pre-realease publicity; the German media seemed especially eager to build up the hype and lavish it with praise until last night. It's reportedly the most expensive European production ever made and all the media watchers were crowing (until the Berlin opening) about how it would challenge the belief that only Hollywood could make such a successful, large scale film.
Wow. This shocks me. I still look forward to seeing it because I tend to love Jude Law's work, but it is discouraging to read that the reviews were pretty scathing.
