My review is below:

Out Cold is yet another teen comedy and like so many others, it fails miserably at its attempts to garner laughs because of an amateurish script and atrocious acting by the cast of mostly unknowns. It’s only good as a snowboard stunt reel and not even that great of one.

Rick Rambis (Jason London) and his three buddies Pig Pen (Derek Hamilton), Luke (Zach Galifianakis) and Anthony (Flex Alexander) are all employees at the Bull Mountain ski resort in Alaska. They don’t really enjoy actually working. They’d much rather dabble in various drinking games and strange snowboarding challenges such as holding a glass of beer while snowboarding down the mountain. They are especially fond of Papa Muntz, the resort’s original owner who was known for inventing the various games. His son Ted (Willie Garson) now owns the resort. They are of course upset when they learn of Ted’s plans to sell the resort to Jack Majors (Lee Majors). Majors wants to turn the resort into a place for persons of the high society to enjoy tea and hopefully spend a bundle of money in the process. The group of friends then set out to destroy the chance of their beloved Bull Mountain being turned into a giant tourist attraction.

The direction of Out Cold by brothers Brendan and Emmet Malloy is mostly only shown to be good when the film is showing snowboarding stunts performed by professional snowboarders. During these sequences the cinematography is well done and the film actually shows some semblance of life. Unfortunately, the part of the film where the plot comes in is very below average. The film basically moves along as a series of skits meant to get the audience chuckling in their seats. The film’s individual scenes don’t really go together and make the film make little sense most of the time. Either the film was heavily edited or the film really is just a series of snowboarding highlights and unrelated vignettes featuring jokes far below the quality of other teen films such as Orange County and American Pie.

The community theater acting done by most of the cast certainly doesn’t improve the film’s chance of success. In the lead role Jason London is quite drab and acts uninterested in the proceedings. His pals are similarly bland and overact all throughout the film. Galifianakis’ acting in this film resembles a young Jim Carrey trying too hard and mugging for the camera. Other supporting performances by Lee Majors and A.J. Cook are standard for this type of film.

Overall, Out Cold is a drab and disinteresting comedy that isn’t worth one’s money unless they are desperately looking for a film that features snowboarding.

5 out of 10.

OUT COLD (2002)

Out Cold was an ok time. It wasn't funny, mainly due to the terribly immature jokes, but it was somewhat entertaining. I love A.J Cook (Final Destination 2, The Virgin Suicides) though, so watching her wasn't much of a chore. She doesn't have much to do, but she is definitely easy on the eyes. I'd give Out Cold a pretty generous rating of a 6/10 (C+).
