I'm having an argument of sorts with my wife, I say tickets for Harry Potter are selling like hotcakes is due in a big part that Attack of the clones trailer is attached to it. She says only a few people know about the trailer, maybe about 5-10% of the ticket sales. She doesn't think fans will pay 10$ to see a two minute trailer. I tell her she's wrong of course, and to get back in the kitchen. I'm saying more like 25-35% of sales are for AOTC fans.

What do you think?

And NO, I didn't tell her to get back in the kitchen, her cooking sucks.

The trailer is already online, so why would people pay 7-10 dollars to see it in a theatre? I say that HP get's a boost of 1-5% because of the AOTC trailer during it's first week. After that it get's none. Also, do you really see 25-35% of the audiences leave once they have seen the AOTC trailer?

People were saying that Monsters Inc opened big because of the AOTC teaser. But on the second weekend the film dropped only 25%. Are people still flocking to see Monsters Inc because of the AOTC teaser, even if it has been available in the internet for one week and it has been shown on TV countless of times? I really doubt it.

Just for a note, Harry Potter has sold more than 100 million books in five years. Add the number of people who have borrowed the books from their friends, relatives or library. Maybe Harry Potter is going to make a lot of money because people want to see it?

The only people who pay 7-10$ to see a trailer are HC fans. But most HC fans have already seen the trailer countless of times. I know many, many movie fanatics and some of them are huge Star Wars fans. But only 2-3 of them would actually pay a prize of a full admission to see a trailer, especially when it has already been available in internet for some time.

... I just realized that is it a THIRD trailer already? If so, some of my arguments are not holding. But then again, if it's a third trailer being released in a time period of two weeks, I think the curiosity is wearing off. A marketing over-kill.

Im gonna go with your wife mate...a majority of the people won't really know about the trailer, those who do, will have downloaded it from the internet. If they haven't downloaded it, i Don't think they would pay their deniro to the cinema just to see it on the big screen.

Nope, if they're gonna see Harry Potter then they're gonna see it because they want to or their kids have nagged them all the way there.

(Hangs head in shame) After giving it considerable thought, I must admit that I overestimated things a little. I just love to disagree with her, or I just can't admit she's right, but 5% of sales sound right for the trailer fans,(if that). Thankfully she has NO idea this board exists, so she will not hear those three words from me... You are right. He he he...

I believe theres about 3% who actually pre-order just to see a damn preview! Nerds are gettin more powerful and they will find other ways to see their precious preview....I just saw it on E! News Daily and it kicked ass! I loved how Anakin turned half-way through the teaser...

I had the newest Episode 2 trailer saved to my computer on large format before Harry Potter had had even one showing. And I'm not even much of a Star Wars fan.
