I was thinking up some ways that you could make some extra dough, and I was reading though some of the other suggestion, and I came to a couple of ideas.

1. Have a thread where people can sell stuff, like movies they bought, and are not fond of, or movie posters. I have a ton that I could sell, and I would rather give the money to you then Ebay. You could charge like a 10-15% percent fee on anything that the person sells.
For instance if I sell bringing out the Dead for 10.00, you could make 1.50 from it, and we could just pay you through pay pal or something.

2. My friend has a website, that is experiencing the same problems as you, and he charges only 1.00 a year to post on his site, he has over 1,500 people that post on his site, and that's an extra 1500.00 dollars for him. Same idea of using pay pal, plus they give you 5 dollars for joining.

Just a couple of thought Joblo

Hey thanks for the thoughts, Bart!

Believe you me, I've been trying everything to keep this puppy going, so all suggestions are always welcome...seriously!!

Unfortunately, your first suggestion would just be waaaay too administrative to set up and keep track of, and sadly, I can barely keep up with my daily tasks as things stand now, and your second suggestion is something which I did think about once, but quickly decided against, since I honestly don't think anyone (including me!) would ever really pay for the services/content offered on our site, since about 99% of all sites out there are still very much free.

I tell you, things are really getting "ugly" out there, not sure how much longer we could keep this up without seriously considering other viable alternatives... /ubb/frown.gif

Hey JoBlo, if i was you and you really are getting stuck and are really scrapping for some dosh then i would really consider Bart's 2nd suggestion. I mean, all the schmoes LOVE posting on this site and i know along side Bart that I am totally willing to pay a mere $1.00 a year to post on this site and im sure hundreds of schmoes are with me, if some are not then they don't pay and they will miss out on the postiing simple as that.

Think about ok, coz none of us want his great site to go down!

If you want Jo to make some money off this, then ask yourself if you see the little advertisment banner at the top of this web page? You do? Good. Go click on it. No, stop reading this post, and go click on the banner. What do you think funds this? /ubb/smile.gif

I know what funds this and you know what all my dvd's and poster buys are from the link above, but sometimes that revenue won't pay the rent so I thought it would be a good suggestion.

i even own one of the t-shirts

Well, I'm sure Jo could clear this up if I'm wrong, but here's my understanding of how this all works (based on experience)...

You don't need to buy anything from those sites, to fund this one. Just click on it and follow the link. Everytime you do that, that site will register one "referral" from joblo.com and they pay some pathetic amount like 0.5 cents, but if 300 people clicked on a link every day, that adds up to a whopping 150 cents (or a $1.50 if you wanna look at it normally), and that buck-fifty (if collected every day) works out to like $45 a month and helps pay the bills a bit. My number may be off because they all work slightly differently, but that's the general idea behind click banners.

So, in short, if you don't wanna buy anything, then don't... Just go click on the banners (then be sure to come right back and keep posting stuff). /ubb/smile.gif

ok, stefanb, sit back there i think you're getting a bit too much of yourself. So if you take a look at what we're trying to do, as mnay of other schmoes we're trying to help out of the site. So take your head out of your...ok no need to go that far, stop being so cocky and realise what we're doing is an innocent and kind thing, try it one day /ubb/tongue.gif

Hey herc,

Take it down a notch bud. I wasn't being cocky. I was explaining how click banners work so people could see just how easy it is to support this site. That's all man. Relax. I re-read my post and I'm somewhat baffled as to what I could have possibly said that was so offensive. Breath in..... Breath out.....

I started this thread to help joblo, not to start a pissing match. If Joblo needs our help, I know that we will all do out part to help him out, but we really, In the words of the food network chef need to kick it up a notch

Yikes...all this for little ol' "moi"...? /ubb/smile.gif

Thanks everyone, but the present state of the internet is such that clicking through banners brings us DICK ALL nowadays (in technical terms, the CPC programs are dogshit). Don't get me wrong, I mean, if a banner interests you, by all means, click it and check out the site on the other end, but for the most part, we only generate revenues when folks click THROUGH our links, either on top of the message forums or any of the banners running on our site, and BUY stuff on the other end (or at least register for something, etc...).

Kinda crappy, I know, but since I'm sure many of the schmoes do buy stuff through the Net from time to time, it sure would help us if you went through the links.

Stefanb, I know you're the man, so I'm not sure where the misunderstanding occurred, but you've always been a good friend to the site and I too, am glad to see you back...

One cool thing is that the studios are now starting to consider JoBlo when it comes to their own ad campaigns (the JOE DIRT banner thingie was paid for by them good folks), so if that trend continues, and the internet ad game picks itself out of the bottom of the barrel, we could all be happy and keep drinking and put-putting through this site for many years to come...

Schmoes rock!

I didn't know I'd left. /ubb/smile.gif Well... I guess I did kinda leave, didn't I? I had a change of pace at work and was doing night shifts for 3 months (since December) and managing a small staff while using any spare time up by nailing one of the cute employees on the side, so I've been busy... gimme a break. sheesh! *grins*
