View Full Version : The new "JoBlo" Look?

Hey all!!

As you might've noticed, we decided that another small tinkering of our front page was in order, and as per usual, your feedback and comments are very welcome.

It's not a MAJOR change, it's essentially just the front page, but it does allow us to slap some more things in there every day, give us a spot to add movie shopping stuff (to keep our sorry asses alive!) and more grooviness.

Either way, please let us know what you dig about it, the site in general and whatever you think sucks balls!!

As always, we thank you for your patronage... /ubb/biggrin.gif

I'll take me a long ass time to get used to it. You should get rid of the red at the top of the page, though.

I agree with both of The Heart Collector's comments. The red doesn't look too hot, but besides that the page looks nice...though it will take me forever and a day to get used to seeing it everyday instead of the JoBlo page I'm used to...

I am diggin in alot Joblo, I agree with everyone else though, I'm not diggin the red. Otherwise it's pretty kick ass

I like it. I'm glad you just improved the site instead of changing the entire structure. Nice work JoBlo!

I don't really like this new set-up too much. The other one was nice and organized and i could find everything easily, but this is kind of strange.

I like it. All the reviews on one side is nice...I often missed the Arrow's reviews with the old format.

Nice to see Indiana Sev back as well...was wondering what happened to his quizzes.

Will take some time to get used to but it has a nice organized feel to it. Easy to navigate due to the hyperlinks at the top of the page which can get you to whatever section you want

Very good, it will just take a few days to get used to it, that's all. But you have to get rid of that red, and you should have your old background back too, it still up on the forums and stuff, just not the main page, I don't know if you planned that or not though. Otherwise, very nice.

I think Navy Top/Film Strip Background would look best Jo, BTW agreed Pack, it's nice to see the return of Indiana Sev, who's great quizzes brought me to this site in the beginning...

Awesome...it's so friggin' nice to see all of this feedback come in so quickly!! Thanks a bunch, ya schmoes!! /ubb/smile.gif

I hear ya about the red top, so here are a few alternate versions. What colors do you guys/girls dig?

Light Blue top/Film Strip background (/index.htm)
Red top/white background (/index-8.htm)
See-through top/Film strip background (/index-2.htm)
Navy top/white background (/index-3.htm)
Black top/Film Strip background (/index-4.htm)
Yellow top/Film Strip background (/index-5.htm)
White top/white background (/index-6.htm)
Grey top/Film Strip background (/index-7.htm)

Or any combination thereof...suggestions?

PS: I too am STILL getting used to the new format, but I really do think that it'll be a better one in the long run (the more stuff we add, more space to add it, etc...)

Whoa....that's odd, I posted that last post in reply to Jo's (as is obvious from the "I think Navy Top/Film Strip Background" comment) after reading his post, but it showed up before his...strange, huh?

I agree with Q, I like the navy one better, plus it goes a little nicer with the rest of the site.

I like this setup alot better. Than before

I agree with Bayfan. I could always see everything at once with the old look. Now it seems like I have to scroll on and on to see what's happening at the site.

You da man, Jo! I'm diggin the site and I hate to beat a dead horse, but I'm glad the red went the way of the dinosaur. All in all I think it's a great, fresh look for the site. GOOOO Jo!

Hello,

I like the new design, but can I make some suggestions. (There is a couple of them, but those are just details, the new design is cool ... (don't get me wrong /ubb/wink.gif))

I don't like the ">>". Could you try to make a table with alternating colors ... something like ...
(With nicer colors of course ...)

<table border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0">
<tr>
<td bgcolor="#C0C0C0"><small><font face="Arial"><strong>General :</strong></font></small></td>
<td bgcolor="#C0C0C0"><small><font face="Arial">dsfdsfgsdfsdf</font></small></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="#808080"><small><font face="Arial"><strong>Review :</strong></font></small></td>
<td bgcolor="#808080"><small><font face="Arial">sdfsdfsdfsdfsdf</font></small></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="#C0C0C0"><small><font face="Arial"><strong>Review #2 :</strong></font></small></td>
<td bgcolor="#C0C0C0"><small><font face="Arial">sdfsdfsdfsdfs</font></small></td>
</tr>
</table>

----------------------
2nd, I would not use rectangle banners on the right, have you tried squares instead. It's nicer IMHO ...
(more or less like the ads @ http://www.cgi-resources.com/)
----------------------
3rd, please drop the grey background /ubb/wink.gif. But use a background, not just a background color ...
(or simply change the color balance of the file in Photoshop)
----------------------
I would use another color than black for the headings ...
----------------------
You should sqeeze everything below the tables, it makes the page too long IMHO.

Why don't you add the Hitbox logo & the search box in the table.

You could use a drop down menu for the lists on the left. The page would be shorter ...
you'll be able to fit the © info, the search box & the "Joblo in the media, ..." menu in the left column ...
Then you would have space below for another banner ...

It's impressive joblo. It's more formal I think but thats not a bad thing at all. It'll take some time for me to get used to but like all your other page updates, I think it'll grow on me. Nice One - the reviews are a highlight though - and the extra content is sensational - keep it up!

It's not a HOMEPAGE dude, this is a bloody website, and it's a spiffy good one too. But I agree that it's hard to see everything at once, but I'm sure i'll get used to it, and it's about time this site has a new look, but a new colour scheme would be good too! Keep it up JOBLO!

Why Jo, are you growing up? Very mature and sophisticated look. I like it! As far as the color...well green is my favorite, but you'd look good in any color! Keep up the great work...you've become quite the household name around here!

I'M GONNA BE BRUTALLY HONEST WITH YA JO!!!

I THINK IT F'IN SUCKS.

I GOT SO USED TO THE OLD STYLE AND I THINK EVERYONE ELSE IS TOO. PLUS IT TAKES A WHILE TO TRY AND FIND A REVIEW. ITS JUST TOO COMPLICATED AND I THINK YOU SHOULD GO BACK TO THE OLD STYLE.

Thanks to EVERYONE for the feedback and the new suggestions (Phydeault...you ARE the man!! A schmoe forever!), and I'm glad to see that most of you dig the new look.

I only realized after I asked for feedback that MOST EVERYONE (including me) is just generally not hip to change (thanks "God", for being so honest...yipes!), so I basically tried my best to take everyone's comments with a "grain of salt", since time does generally allow everyone to get used to new things (especially if they're better).

We obviously HAD to make the change in order to keep growing as a site, so it's nice to see that most of you were willing to take that trip along with us.

Thanks again for the feedback, and all of the personal emails that I have received. It's nice to know that we all have your support and that our site will hopefully keep going, despite our current finanical woes....
