I have 2 suggestions. One very small, the other, quite large.

1. (small one) Do you wanna consider turning on the "delete post" feature for regular users? It's not like anyone can then delete anyone else's post... you can only delete your own. It makes more sense then editing a post to say "ignore this post". MAybe I'm the only screw-up who hits the wrong buttons. Who knows.

2. (large one) In the schmoes board, I really think the schmoes should get the chance to write their little spiel AND also give the flick a rank from 1 to 10. As it is, the schmoes say is only either "good" or "bad", and you make percentages based on that -- which is cool, but there's a big difference between a "good" 7/10 and a "good" 9/10. I figure it'd be cooler if a few hundred people ranked a flick out of ten and the schmoes board listed the movies in order of the average rank out of ten. Then you'd have a 1-10 ranking built by "the average movie-goer". It'd be pretty cool. Just my idea. Do with it as you will.

Add on:

Yea, I realize how many people see a bad movie and automatically say "SHIT -- 1/10", and how freely the average schmoe will throw a "10" at every movie they like. But, I think the 1's and 10's will cancel each other out and you'd still get a pretty accurate reflection of what people thought of the movie. I think it could also be useful to comapre to your own ranking system and see if your idea of a "6" is the same as the average viewers idea of a "6". I don't think most people really consider 6/10 to be a great rank, but that's actually your AVERAGE rank

So, I dunno - it's something I'd really like to see, but I don't know how much work it'd be for you. Do you do that whole part of the website manually, or is it done in PERL, CGI, Cold Fusion, or something of that sort (those are web programming languages for you non computer people)?

Thanks for the suggestions, duder.

I'll look into the first one (not sure if it's possible or not, but I'll let you know), but the second one is something that I've already considered, but dropped because of the very reason that you mentioned.

Pretty much EVERYONE that I know has a different way that they "rate" movies, so a scale wouldn't really help matters much (in my opinion). One man's 1/10 is another man's 6/10, etc... The way we have it set up now is the easiest for us to determine who LIKED and DIDN'T like the movies in question, which is more or less what we were going for in the first place.

And YES, we handle all of the comments manually (and let me tell you...there are a LOT of them!!), which is probably why you don't see too many spelling errors in them, or any BOGUS POSTS (if I had a nickel for every comment of "This movie sucks" or "This movie rocks" that I've deleted over the years...I'd be stinky rich now... /ubb/smile.gif

Joblo, I think you should include the neutral face in your review pages. Most schmoes don't even know that they can pick one and even if they do, neutral faces are not included when the amount of smilies is counted.

Yeah, they're "technically" there for people who REALLY can't make up their minds, but a lot like ROTTEN TOMATOES, my idea is that when push comes to shove...would you recommend this movie or not?! I don't want to give people the "safety net" of having to say neutral a lot... /ubb/smile.gif

Heheehehe...but they ARE there!!
