Is it only me?
It seems that every other time I click onto this site, I am hit with monstrous porno spams. The pop-ups come fast and furious, and it really is pissing me off.
The site that I am directed to is called "Vevax"...and they are persistent fuckers with those damn pop-ups.
I am besieged by pop-up pages as I am typing this...MUTHA FUCKAH!!
Anyone else?

PS- I'd like to thank joblo for having the good sense to shut down the drama queens on the Miscellaneous board.Good show, joblo!

Do you mean on OUR site? JoBlo's Movie Emporium? Where do the pop-ups appear? Like, on which pages exactly...?

I've actually gone OUT OF MY WAY not to have any pop-ups on my site (except on some off pages here and there). In fact, I think we might be one of the only movie sites left with no pop-up advertising (not sure how long that will last for though...)

Do you get pop-ups on the message board? Let me know...thx...

PS: Thanks! /ubb/biggrin.gif

Upon reading my original post, I can see I was a bit vague with my frustrations.
Yes, they are occuring on joblo, and I am experiencing them as I write this.
It goes like this...
Sometimes, when I click on this site(joblo's movie emporium), I am hit with pop-ups from a porn site called "Vevax".
I am left with no other option but to sign off, and try again. It gets very tedious having to access your site 5 times just to clear it.
I certainly appreciate the fact that you are one of the RARE sites that does not deluge their visitors with endless ads.Outside of this "porn" glitch, I am never bombarded with useless offers.Very thankful for that.

Weird. I've never experienced any pop-ups when coming to this site. Could it be browser related?

Very, very strange. We honestly have NO POP-UPS on our main page and especially NO pop-ups to any porn site (not that there's anything wrong with that! /ubb/wink.gif

Very weird, dude...I honestly don't have an answer to your query....

Anyone else experiencing this?

I've never experienced pop-ups when visiting JoBlo. Could it be possible that maybe you downloaded something recently that's causing you to go to the Vevax (sounds like an old 1950's brand of laundry soap to me...) site automatically?

Good one, edonline...heh heh.
Thanks for all the suggestions.I was able to sign on today without the incessant pop-ups...woo-hoo.
I will follow piroque's advice and visit the pop-up killer. That should do the trick.

Oh oh oh oh oh.... I know this one.... Ok bud, here's what's happened to you. Have you ever been to zone.msn.com or www.yahoo.com (http://www.yahoo.com) and had one of those pops ups appear for "x10.com" Well, those types of pop ups are generated by the website your visiting. Then, there is what is referred to as "spy-ware" pop-ups (The term "spy-ware" is used here making it all sound much more dramatic then it really is)... Anyway, continuing on....

Have you ever used the Windows 98 update website? If you have, you may have noticed that their website installs a little bit of software, via your browser. A little box popped up saying what it was about to do to your system and there was a checkbox at the bottom that said "Always trust Microsoft Corporation?" Many of you have seen this, even if you don't remember it.

So how does this all effect you? Good question...

In the same way Microsoft installed a little bitty bit of software via your browser, some other company has done the same thing to you. You would have gotten a warning, but like most people, you probably just clicked 'ok' and never gave it a second thought. Well this software that was installed via your browser makes pop-ups galore come out of f#(%*ing nowhere every time you go to certain websites (in your case, THIS website). What's really annoying about them, it that it makes it look like it's that website your currently on that's creating the pop-up (just like the x10.com ones from yahoo and zone), but that's not what's happening at all.

Another way the software may have gotten on your system is if you downloaded, and ran some shareware/freeware program off the Internet.

So, now we know what they are... whooppee you're thinking... How the hell to I get this shit to quit?

First up, do me a favor. Go check out the following web page at virtualdr.com. This discussion group looks a lot like the one here at joblo.com, but it's for us computer geeks. I'm a member of both. But anyway, here's the link:

http://discussions.virtualdr.com/Forum2/HTML/047458.html

Follow the link that the very first guy posted in there. It'll teach you all about this particular type of spy-ware. Then get a copy of the software (also from the link) and use it to remove the dirty bastard.
Also, there's a great product for avoiding all types of spy-ware... Enter the hero, http://www.lavasoftusa.com who has created a great little utility for zapping any/all of this type of shit right off you system.

I hope this help!! Cheers! /ubb/biggrin.gif

I just started getting a pop-up for "live nude strippers" about a week or so ago. It seems to pop up whenever I'm on the JoBlo site (it could be just coincidence, but it seems like its where it always occurs). If I close it, it just goes away until it pops up again the next day. It's annoying because I don't know if it's something I downloaded, something someone snuck onto the JB website or some other reason.

stefanb...

Thanks a bunch for your input, much appreciated. I will certainly give them all a look. I am still having the problem, so hopefully your suggestions will help resolve the headache.

Cheers...

Thanks for the suggestion stefan. I downloaded and ran Ad-Aware ftom the lavasoftusa website, and I was surprised at how much stuff it found on my systems. It's a great utility to run every now and then.

Jo...for the last two days, ive been receiving pop-ups from freeonline.net on your website (at various places). I downloaded adaware and have deleted over 30 different forms of spyware, but they still come up. Is it possible that its not on my end of the computer?

We don't have any pop-ups on our site, other than a small one that "comes up" on our front page, and a couple sprinkled here and there for top sites (but not freeonline.net). Not sure where your pop-ups are coming from.... http://www.joblo.com/ubb/confused.gif

AdAware can only detect and remove things that it "knows" about. Just like Virus scanning software works, you need to constantly update your "virus definitions" file. AdAware is no different AND (drum roll please), they just released an update yesterday or the day before. So head back to www.lavasoftusa.com, (http://www.lavasoftusa.com,) and pick up version 5.6 - completely free as always. Apperently the radar picks up a lot more than version 5.5 did.
