Here we go - NOT ANOTHER LOTR TOPIC, but it's a topic that will quickly die down after I get this question answered:

Ok, I know there's been a cast screening, but has there been a critics screening too? Cause everywhere I look there's a bloody review. Surely, if it was a cast screening, this many people would not have seen it.
My conclusion: Most of them are fake, if my assumption is wrong, please enlighten me...

There have been many distributor and press screenings. I guess that most countries have had them, it's only two weeks before the film comes out. Also, many of the reviews have been written by established critics.

If I am not mistaking there have been some critics screening and Academi Awards' meber screening cause they are hoping for nominations to the Oscars.

Well, the must have been some kind of critic screening...because "Newsweek" just came out with their glowing review of the film.

Critique by "David Assen" (who has not read the Tolkein books, for those interested in an "outsiders" perspective)

Just to keep everyone up to date, here is the link to all the reviews from WELL-KNOWN, ESTABLISHED MOVIE CRITICS:

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/movie-1108476/

Five reviews so far. Approval meter 100%. On a sidenote, the link is missing a couple of reviews (including the Entertainment Weekly review, which gave the film A), but they should be up soon.

Actually ak, there have been ALOT of screenings of this film in various countries - as someone stated earlier, for Oscar, and promotion reasons. So, no, I wouldnt say that any of them are fake. Except maybe for the review by the little girl at Eclipse.com She didnt know the story, the characters names, and she complained about everything everyone else loved. Pretty much, she read those reviews, wanted to get some attention to her sit, and made a bad review of her own. She is only 14 by the way, and reviews WWF stuff, and says she has been running the site for 5 years; since she was 8. ......riiiiiiiiiight

My screening's on the 13th but word on the street is that NO ONE is allowed to publish their reviews before the 19th of December!!! Harumph....uuuuuhmmmm, well, I guess that doesn't apply to all the "big" magazines and shit, right??! http://www.joblo.com/ubb/confused.gif

NEW LINE is seriously fucked up with shit like this. They build MILLIONS of dollars into marketing this mutha, but when it comes time to show it to the world, they ask you to bring your passport to the screening (exaggeration-- but they are asking for photo IDs) and advise you of an actual body search when you're there!! It's like "take it easy" folks...it's only a movie and for God's sakes...give us online motherfuckers a break already....

Grrrrrrrr.... http://www.joblo.com/ubb/mad.gif

Only time will tell how serious they are with their critical embargoes this time around (apparently not all that serious since everyone and their uncle seems to be putting shit up...)

RE: Well, everyone is posting reviews anyway. I don't understand New Line's reasoning behind this. Since the film is getting really good reviews, why prevent the word from spreading? It only will get more people in theaters.

Tuuka I was thinking exactly the same thing, it would seem helpful and smart for New Line to allow these reviews out early, if they believe in the film they should be happy and glowing about these great reviews. I'm just loving reading these reviews and my anticipation is building even more! Man will this movie rock!!! DEC 19th get here already!!!!!!!!!!

JoBlo I think I remember you said that the WB would not let you post your review of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" on the site untill opening day 11/16/01. But you did that topic where fans could ask you questions about it. Any chance you could do this about LOTR. Just Wondering. Thank You.

I don't know. Chud has it's review posted, I don't see them not letting Joblo put his up. Unless he hates the movie which I don't think is possible since he gave Dungeons & Dragons a 7/10 and that movie was dogshit.
