Here's a new quiz, based on Oscar winners. The game goes like this. I will list a category and a year. You tell me the person/film that won that Oscar.
Example:
Best Picture 1974?
Answer: THE GODFATHER PART II
Try to answer using only your brain, without resorting to sources like the IMDB. When you answer a question, post another below it. Then the next person posts, places the answer, and enters a new category/year. Got it? Good.
Here's one to start off:
Best Director 1989?
Fergus
08-26-2001, 05:29 PM
Oliver Stone for Born on the Fourth of July.

I'm not sure about this, but considering it was a front runner at the oscars, and the script is extraordinary, I'd have to say Network. Please verify, then I'll make up a question or you can if I don't respond for awhile.

I guess you don't have to say who it was, just the movie, no cheating, I knew this off the top of my head. Think hard, what film(s)
were running for best of the year besides Amadeus.
I'll give a hint, it was set in Cambodia. Now, I practically gave it away, c'mon.

Easy one: Best Actress 1990?
FlickJunkie
09-02-2001, 02:14 PM
Well, then you must make that more clear because she won the Oscar in 1963 for the year 62, you should have then said who won in '64 for the year '63. It is confusing that way...
1990 - Kathy Bates, "Misery"
What song was the Best Song winner for the year 1992?

I had thought that people would understand by my example in the original post that I meant who won the Oscar for that year, not in that year.
Best Song 1992 was "A Whole New World" from Aladdin (Alan Menken and Howard Ashman? He might not have though, I know he died).

Nope, Assistant Director was actually a category. But I'll guess yours: PURPLE RAIN?
Fergus
11-03-2001, 08:41 PM
Looking at the choices, the only one that seems to be absolutely LUDICROUS is 'Best Comedy Direction'. That is a stupid category whether it was one or not.
My second choice would be 'Dance Direction'.
[This message has been edited by Fergus (edited 11-03-2001).]
actually, Fergus, Both comedy direction and dance direction were given out: Comedy is 1927/28, and dance in 1935-37. The category that doesn't exist is "Production design".
