I just read about this movie from what Joey Baloney wrote. My question is this. How can the make a movie about the earth stopping its rotation, and then having to fix it? Because if that happened we would all be killed. And by the slim slim chance that we did survive there would still be the problem of parts of the earth being in constant darkness and other parts being in constant sunlight. How can they get around this huge plot hole?

It's Hollywood Sci-fi. Just check your brain at the door, and have fun I say. Hopefully this movie is good.

Interestingly enough (and I'll post this on the news site soon), I got an e-mail from Jon Rogers shortly after I posted the pictures and write-up. He's the guy who wrote the script for the movie. He clarified a few points. Apparently, the core of the Earth spins independently of the rest of the planet. Every 500,000 years or so it changes direction as the North/South poles shift. It's during one of these changes that something goes wrong and the core stops spinning. The team has to fix the core before the Earth cracks into little bits. He seemed really concerned about the science of the film and was very eager to make a "smart" movie. It certainly sounded like the man did his research. So I guess it all does check out in science....
