Scream-killers

Why do the killers in the 3 Scream-movies (try to) kill other people than Sidney.
After all, she's the only one they want to kill with a certain motif.
Was it the intention not to kill Sidney from the start in Scream 1?? Because the killer in S3 said that from S1 he was building up to this moment.
Did Roman also pushed Mrs. Loomis to start killing? I don't think so, because he said 'I didn't know they were going to make a movie on their own'. But at what point did Roman know to start the killings again?
Why did he wait so long?
These are (I think) the only things I didn't really get in the trilogy.

In each movie(scream 1, 2 and 3), had several different reasons to kill people besides Sidney! In Scream 1, one of the reasons of Casey to have died for example, it was the fact that she had finish the date whith Stuart, and started do be a girlfriend of another guy(who was murdered too!).The other deaths happened mainly because certain people were in the wrong place and in the wrong hour! Anyway, they would be witness if they continued alive!
In Scream 2, there was the fact that the killers were repeating the deaths that happened in Woodsboro... they was choosing their victims whose names was the same of the victims in Scream 1. That was an attempt of misleading the police, making they believe that the deaths was just some kind of freak trying to repeat Stab!
In Scream 3, the idea was basically the same... the diference is that the killer made the murders in agreement with the sequence of deaths in the movie Stab 3!
