Has anyone seen any advance screenings of Ali yet?

I have yet to see it, but I for one am looking forward to it. I like Will Smith as an actor and look forward to seeing him play a part different than anything I have seen him in.

I was invited to a screening of both Ali and A Beautiful Mind on saturday, so I'll tell you what I think of Ali after Saturday.

ALI has not been getting as good reviews as I thought it would. Most of the reviews I've read call it mediocre.

The reviewer i listened to today called ALI "very flat." He described it as: Here's Ali. Here's Ali converting. Here's Ali fighting Frazier... Without getting into WHY he converted or his feelings about losing. He said Will Smith will most likely get an Oscar nod, but Jamie Foxx steals the show and definitely deserves a Best Supporting Actor nomination. Overall, this reviewer gave it 2 out of 4 stars. Judge for yourself Christmas day.

Yeah, looks like JoBlo found it flat too. At least Will Smith seems to have did a good job...

I agree with the reviews. I wasnt looking forward ot it, but Lord of the Rings was sold out, so I had to see something. I dont think Willy did so good either. I dont think he deserves any kind of nomination for it, at least. Foxx might deserve a supporting nod though.

::WAVES HANDS:: I saw it! Because LOTR is STILL sold out (bastards.....). I was pleasantly surprised, what an incredible movie! 10/10! Read my review here: http://www.joblo.com/ubb/Forum22/HTML/000560.html

This is the one of the rare times when I COMPLETLEY agree with JoBlo's review. Ali was flat and boring. Michael Mann reall did OD (over-direct) on this one. WAY too much style and not enough attention to the story and character development. Some of the boxing fights were cool, but some were too long. (In fact, the whole movie felt like it was 5 hours long.) The worst part was the side characters, which weren't developed nearly enough.
Ah, just read JoBlo's review. I agree with everything he said, right down to the 4/10 rating.
Will Smith was pretty impressive, though...

I doubt I will ever see this movie even when it comes out next month on video.
I really do not care one way or the other about Ali and all the bad press makes me wish to spend my money on better flicks.
I saw a report today that said it was so bad that it would not garner any Oscar nominations.
Out.......

The overall movie was pretty good, but Smith's performance was just tip-top. If it wasn't for Smith than the movie would've sucked.
