I have a great appreciation for world cinema. I especially like Ang Lee movies like The Wedding Banquet, Eat Drink Man Woman and Sense and Sensibilty. I also love traditional Chinese fantasy movies, Wuxia Pien I belive they are called. The idea that these two style could be mixed astounded me. I loved the drama, I loved the fighting. It should win everything, I reckon it could suprise everyone with a 'Best Director' oscar.

I am from the West, and I didn't think it was a great film. I thought that Ang Lee's humor cheapened an already average film. Michelle Yeoh and Chang Chen were very good, but I wasn't impressed by Zhang Ziyi or by Chow Yun Fat. I thought the placement of the humor was inappropriate for this type of film. Perhaps a different kind of humor more sensitively placed would have worked. The photography was beautiful, and I guess Peter Pau deserves the credit. He also filmed "Dracula 2000". But, they could have used more pictures of China's countryside. I don't mind them flying in the movie or flashing back, but it would be nice if they could explain these things. "CTHD" will probably win an Oscar for best foreign film, but I don't think it should get best picture.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon can be compared to an opra. I can't understand it the language, but the story and beauty is not lost.
I thought it was the best movie I saw all year and maybe in years.
It wasn't by any means a typical kung fu movie. It had so much more. The story was awesome. The action was top notch. The imagination was orginal. Just like the commercials say,"This is why we go to the movies." To be dazzled, amused and amazed. All the characters were great and acted great. Zero wholes. Purely the best movies in years.
