Mine are FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 4, with FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3 a close second. Why? Mainly because of the wicked characters!

Jimbo and Teddy from PART 4 - These guys ruled. The dialogue between them was funny and they could both act. Ted, the asshole who thought he was all that and Jimbo, the poor, paranoid, horny dude who just wanted to get laid.
Ali F13 part 3 - 80s black, ganster biker!

Part VI: JASON LIVES. The sequel with brains, energy, a fast pace, police involvement, decent characters, above average acting, an actual script(!), a competent director, Jason's intro as an unstoppable zombie, and a soundtrack featuring Alice Cooper. In my opinion, the first six were great in their own ways, but after JASON LIVES, it was all down hill...

The original FRIDAY THE 13TH was the best: Adrienne King is my favorite "final girl" from the series; no one expected the killer to be a middle-aged woman (Betsy Palmer); the POV shots of the killer (a "Halloween" ripoff but effective nevertheless); great score by Harry Manfredini; a decent supporting cast (Kevin Bacon's first film); and a SLAM BANG ending (Jason jumping out of the murky lake waters and attacking Alice).

this discussion could be going on for a long time..The best Friday movie? I can't really answer that question. First of all you have Jason movies pre-zombie status, 1-5. Out of all these the ones that struck me as actual good movies were 1-4. The ones that struck me as an awesome horror movie that made me jump, get nervous, biting my nail, etc. were parts 2,3,4. In 2, we're introduced to Jason and we don't know what his limits are except he's one helluva sneaky bastard on a killing spree wearing a potato bag on his head. Part 3, one of the best. The biker gangs, axe in the head after Jason is even hanged, and the most influential part of the movie...his hockey mask!!! That movie just plain rocked for 80's horror genre. Part 4, the so called final chapter. This movie started with a bang and ended with an atomic bomb! We get to see Jason's face (again), we get to see two awesome twins, and the comedy between the two single guys was off the wall. Good scripts and, dare I say it, good acting for 3-4. I won't even get into part 5. So out of 1-5, the bomb one has to be 4.

Now we get to to post-zombie status in part 6-9. Everybody thought Jason was a tough ass when he was alive. Now that he's dead and still killing people you can't help but think, damn, this dude is freakin unstoppable. Part6. One of the best, but not THE best. I loved it when Jason came back alive and killed Horshack from Welcome Back Kotter!. Not only did this beginning of sorts have action, romance, horror, comedy, it re-introduced us to the most bona fide killer of all time with the same attitude as always.
Part 7. This is my favorite. A little cheesy with the telekinetic powers(something they shouldn't have done at all). But what got me was the way Jason looked in the movie. That dude looked kicked ass in every frame, and he wasn't taking any names just lives.
Part 8.....no comment.
Part 9.....ditto

To make it short like I should've done, part 7 The New Blood was the bomb.

Panicticks - i agree with what you say.Part 6 is brilliant.I quite like Cort he was cool. Did you know that Tom Fridley who played Cort is John Travoltas nephew?! Anyway i also love the alice cooper song 'He's Back (Man Behind The Mask)'.I hear they made a video for it.I'd love to see it.
Fllat - I agree with some of what you say (the comedy between jim an ted in part 4) but i thought part 7 sucked big!The characters were ugly and couldnt act!I wanted them all to die!The violence was toned down as well. And as for the telekinetic story line - how dumb!Crap idea!

Mine would be part II.

The opening scene just kicks ass and Jason looks IMO much scarier with that bag on his head. The last half hour where Jason is chasing ( rhymez! ) the Heroine through the Forest was one of the best chase scenes in the whole series.

O.K., so the plot and the ending are fairly dumb, the movie has it's lenghts, but which Friday hasn't? This one has the introduction of Jason, enough gore, a suspenseful ( if really dumb ) climax and a lot of nudity. I like it. IMO it's equal to the first, but on a whole different level.

Haven't seen Part 4 yet, ( Censorship, I hope you die! ) but I didn't really like Jason's Zombie Period.

!MorganOnyx!, you can watch the "He's Back" video at launch.com. Depending on the speed of your modem or cable hook-up, quality varies, but it's a cool video!

I loved part 7! I just would love to have the ability to move things with my mind and they had a great battle between Tina and Jason. And the sleeping bag scene, heh that was a classic.

The original,2,and 4 are the most serious, and well done of the series. They are the scariest.Part 3 was by the numbers, not the greatest acting.Killer beginning, though.Part 5 is actually not a bad movie, decent acting, fairly scary at times. But,of course,it's not Jason.Part 6 had one of the best scrpts,it was funny, and tounge in cheek. It seemed to have more talent behind the camera than most of the others.I also thought Jason looked really cool in that one.Part 7 was bad, poor acting, cheesy as hell.Jason himself was cool, very mean looking.Part 8,crap.Whole different tone than any other Friday film.I didn't like it.Jason goes to Hell would have been good,if Jason had been Jason, and not hopped into the bodies of cops and talk show hosts.I just didn't believe that these people were Jason. It was over the top.Again, kick ass beginning,though....and ending.I am looking forward to Jason X bigtime.

Chalk up one more vote for "Jason Lives." This one is hilarious. Part 2 is the best of the "serious" installments, in my opinion - containing, as it did, actual moments of suspense.

My favorite is Part 2 because the final 20 minute chase scene is probably the best segment of a FRIDAY film. I felt the tension was great and JASON'S potato sack looked creepier than the hockey masked (mostly cause he only bothered cutting out one eyehole). Also since this was one of the earlier entries I found the characters to be more tolerable. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

F13th part 6, of course because :

Two likable heroes ( especially Megan !! Jenifer Cook from the V serie, she was gorgeous ) who are very dynamic and there is a chemestry between them, this is obvious.
Cord was very cool, too ( the indian stones dialogue was hilarious )
Better than average acting for a slasher film.
The film is very very entertaining and fun !
Good direction.
Spoof oriented but it was a good idea I think.
A powerful and impressive Jason ( however not as impressive as in F13th part 7, Jason is a real bad ass in this chapter !! )
Gory.

FRIDAY THE 13TH (1980) Directed by Sean S. Cunningham. Starring Betsy Palmer, Adrienne King, Harry Crosby, Laurie Bartram, Mark Nelson, Jeannine Taylor, Robbi Morgan, Kevin Bacon, Peter Brouwer and Walt Gorney. Despite its low budget and worthless sequels, the original "Friday The 13th" stands out among the crowd of blatant "Halloween" ripoffs. The story is basic: a group of would-be camp counselors are murdered one at a time by an unseen killer. Without giving away the ending (for the three of you out there who haven't seen it), the final cat-and-mouse game between heroine Alice (played to perfection by King, a worthy successor to Jamie Lee Curtis's Scream Queen crown) and the film's killer is the ultimate experience in pure horror filmmaking and moviegoing. And that ending! It sure still packs a wallop after 20 years! The presumed dead Jason jumping out of the murky waters of Crystal Lake and attacking Alice in the canoe is a far better dream sequence jolt than the infamous "Carrie" finale (where Amy Irving, looking like a zombie bride, is attacked by a hand from beyond the grave). Bacon (in one of his first film roles) is fun as Jack, who gets it in the throat with an arrow after making love to his girlfriend Marcie (Taylor), Gorney is effectively creepy as the town loony Crazy Ralph ("you're all doomed!"), and Morgan is terrific as the first victim, Annie (who audiences mistakenly believed would be the film's heroine since she was the first established character in the post-credits scene). The rest of the cast is pretty good for this type of amateur outing. Tom Savini's makeup effects are superb, as is the "shrieking violins" score by Harry Manfredini (an obvious "Psycho" riff, but still effective). King still stands out as my favorite leading lady in the "Friday" series. Whatever happened to her? My grade for this original: A

Friday the 13th. Its the only one that really had a believable plot. Betsy Palmer was excellent as Pamela Voorhees, she was evil but a part of you felt sorry for her. The characters were likeable and the atmosphere was great. Great Savini effects. to me Pamela was a much better killer than Jason or Roy. Part 2 is a very close 2nd bc it was Jasons best outing plus the sack is much scarier than the hockey mask. I cannot stand the Zombie Jason, they shouldve brought Jasons father in as the killer after pt 5.

Jason Takes Manhattan is so underrated. Remeber he goes to New York City and wreaks havoc over there. Jason seems especially potent and evil in this one here. He impales one guy till his guts slide out. Blows up a boat, fights and kills tow armed gansters with a measly syringe, drowns a guy in toxic sludge and boxes the next Mike Tyson on a rooftop finally punching his head off into a dumpster. The musical score's awesome and the gore's effective. And Julious's line "Lets get this sob before he gets us huh?!" Is a classic. The hunting on the ship for Jason was suspensful and for the first time in the entire series someone suspects it's Jason before everyone's killed off but one or two people (Julious thinks its Jason and so does the Janitor.) Jason's costume was actually very good for this F13. Peace out!

Friday The 13th part 1 is the very best because it is the original that started it all.
