Todd McFarlane wants Spawn 2 to be more of a horror movie then the first one was. He keeps saying that he wants Spawn 2 to be rated R and made like Seven. A friend told me that Todd McFarlane wants David Fincher to direct Spawn 2. He also told me that David Fincher is currently considering directing the movie. I know the movie would be great if he did direct it.
From what I have read the movie sounds real good. The main characters are 2 police detectives trying to catch a serial killer, and Spawn is just going to be in the background, more like a boogeyman living in the shadows then a superhero. Spawn is also supposed to look completely different. This movie is supposed to be darker and more serious then the first one.
Does anyone know if it is true that David Fincher is considering directing Spawn?

Todd McFarlane does not want to make Spawn 2 more like a horror movie, he wants to make it a pure Horror movie. This movie will not be a hero movie, it will be a horror movie. I have heard the script is one of the creepiest and most scary scripts out there.
I don’t know if David Fincher is going to direct it but I know Todd McFarlane compares Spawn 2 to Seven

This image was released a while back (you'll notice the inacurate 2000 release date) to promote Todd McFarlane's Spawn 2.
<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2"> "It's still Spawn. It's still Al Simmons. But there's no Jason, No Clown, No Hell. There's nothing. It's just about him now. At no time in my mind will you see Spawn in his full regalia, standing there in his cape and costume. I wan't to make the best movie possible. There's something about him being the Sentinel figure, lurking. Does he even exist? is he a frigment of our imagination? I want to bring that aspect of how he can scare people without actually having to do anything to them".

I have very high hopes for this movie.

Spawn was a dreadful mess, let's hope, if there is any hope, that they get a better director to do the second. Not that I care much, cause it's not the best of stories out thee at all.

Yes getting as far away from the original Spawn may be a good idea as it blew.
I can't say one way or the other if I will see it, but if it is well done and gets good word of mouth I may.
There are far too few Horror movies out there that are worthy seeing.

Sounds good to me. But why no Clown, or Violator, or Overtkill, or CyGor?? That movie would kick ass if it followed the actual story for Spawn. Or they could just make it follow the story of Spawn: The Dark Ages, which is set in Medevil times, and has the freakiest action-figures ever.
Spawn sucked but if David Fincher directs Spawn 2 ill be the first one to see it. I hate Jodie Foster to death but dammit Fincher did Panic Room so i guess i have to suffer through her ugly mug for 2 hours to see Fincher's brillance.

*walks in, waves a sign with 'FINCHER RULES' written on it, walks out*
Yeah I'd love to see Fincher make a sequel to Spawn. I didn't think the original was that bad, it was on last night, about midnight or something (Channel 5, UK). I also like what Dumb-Fokker** wrote about Medieval times, that would kick some serious ass!

That'd be cool, but I don't think the guy likes to direct other people's movies. One can dream though. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/cool.gif (I have good hopes for the project anyway)

David Fincher? What do you know, there is a God, and for once he doesn't have it in for me!
I'm glad that McFarlane has finally owned up to how bad the first Spawn was, and now he can move on to make this new incarnation everything the first movie should have been. I think he may be removing himself a few steps too far from the comic book roots by excluding the entire hell angle, but at least he's got his head on straight.
Um......What happened tp Common Sense Man? He's been un-registered.

Actually Spawn is a great story, one of my favorites. The movie however did not follow the terrific story from the comic. The movie tried to tell the story of Spawn too quickly. So from the movie we got cool effects and action but none of the heart or emotion from the comic.
The comic is very dark and creepy and the Spawn character of is a lot more complicated and more frightening then in the movie.
The way Todd McFarlane wants to go with Spawn 2 is a real good ideal, and I think it will fix what they messed up with in the first movie.

I will not be silenced!!! Yes I agree someone was trying to squelch the voice of truth that is......
Common Sense Man!
But it will not happen, I vow to continue to shed the light of truth on all who wish to see!!!!
Okay enough of the melodrama. I guess a bug was responsible for my mysterious removal from the boards. (Hmmmm)
But Joblo was very helpful and quickly answered my pleas to reinstate me as I was going thru withdrawal.
But unfortunately for me I could reregister but I must again assume the mantle of the junior schmoe, Oh the weight I must bear!
So watch out I am back and better than ever, ready to again join the fray!
It's good to be home.
Oh and thanks AK and DF for noticing, I got all fheclempt! Talk amongst yourselves.
Out.........

Wiggleworm, I think the poster may be for the animated series, of which I own all 3 seasons on DVD. I used to collect the comics and while the film was a decent attempt at recreating them, the animated series is much darker and closer to the original feel of the comic.
Also, the storylines are closer to those of the comics (e.g. Series 1 deals with Billy Kincaid and Overkill makes an appearance, despite looking different to the Overt-kill in the comic.
)
If you haven't seen the animated series then I can highly recommend it. I bought the DVD box set with all 3 seasons, and it also has a commentary for the whole of series 1 by Todd McFarlance himself! Check it out folks!
On the subjest of Fincher directing Spawn 2, I love Fincher and would love to see him do this. Se7en is one of my favourite films and the lok and tone of it would suit Spawn to a tee!

If David Fincher is directing Spawn 2?? That would be awesome and more better than the 1st one. I cant wait for Panic Room with Jodie Foster. She's sooo beautiful.

If David Fincher does decide to direct Spawn 2, then that movie is going to kick ass! He's a great choice for a movie like Spawn. And it'll definitely be better than the first one. I didn't really think Spawn was a great movie. I felt like I was watching a Saturday Morning Cartoon.
