Everyone knows John Carpenter is a great horror director, but look at all the great non-horror stuff he's done: Escape from L.A. (1996), Memoirs of an Invisible Man (1992), They Live (1988), Big Trouble in Little China (1986), Escape from New York (1981), Elvis (1979) (TV), Someone's Watching Me! (1978) (TV), Assault on Precinct 13 (1977), Dark Star (1973).
What's your favorite non-horror Carpenter?
Mine:
1. Escape from New York
2. Starman
3. They Live
4. Big Trouble in Little China
5. Assault on Precinct 13
6. Dark Star
7. Escape from LA
8. Memoirs of an Invisible Man (feh)
I have yet to see "Someone's Watching Me!" and "Elvis."

RESURRECTION OF BRONCHO BILLY (MADE FOR TV MOVIE) IS A WESTERN MOVIE (I USED TO LOVE WESTERNS DONT ASK ME WHY.) ITS ABOUT A GUY (JOHNNY CRAWFORD) WHO LIVES IN THE CITY IN MODERN TIMES AND WANTS TO BE A COWBOY IN THE OLD WEST. ITS SORTA A TRIBUTE TO OLD WEST MOVIES AND IT DOES HAVE ALOT OF ACTION.

Escape from New York is good. That'd have to be my favorite. I haven't seen Escape from LA, I heard it was bad. What do you guys think about it?

ESCAPE FROM LA is very similar to NY but with a bigger budget and more action. It has more of a comical tone as far as i can remember. It's not half as bad as what the critics made out - i found it entertaining, just good fun!

Yeah, what Morgan said. It has nearly the same plot as NY, is much slicker looking, but much goofier. The extra humor doesn't work very well, but I think it's worth seeing once, just to see Kurt Russell playing Snake again.

BEST NON-HORROR CARPENTER
(1) Starman (1984)
(2) Escape From New York (1981)
(3) They Live (1988)
All three are considered science fiction, which is a distant cousin to the horror genre. Carpenter didn't stray from his roots, and deserves more credit than he's received.
