Anyone else surprised that The Mexican only made 20mill? (so far). Sure most actors would kill for a 20mill opeining, but come on, these are 2 of the biggest actors (Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts) out there (Julia is probably currently THE biggest actress). For god sake, ''Down To Earth'' made almost that a couple weeks ago!!! What do you guys think?

Someone mentioned (might have been JoBlo) that Brad Pitt, despite his talent and popularity, has basically been stinking up the box office the last couple of years. I mean think about it. Fight Club, Snatch, Seven Years in Tibet, etc weren't exactly major commerical successes. I think the man's probably pretty stoked to see that Mexican made 20 million in it's first week and will probably head northward of 100 when all is said and done.

True, Brad on his own hasn't had much success, but come on ''america's sweetheart'' Julia Roberts is staring in it w/ him. You would just think that those 2 staring one in one movie would be more....

Well to start the film is EXCELLENT (9.5/10 I give it). But the reasons the Box Office is kind od disappointing for it are:

1.The R rating
2.It's a very quirky and well different film
and
3.It's not your usual Julia Roberts flick

I hope everybody goes to see it because it is amazing. Let's hope it grosses north of 100 million!!!

The problem is that there's no real "stars" anymore, no actors/actresses with such a great box-office power that everything they're in is always a hit. Julia Roberts, I thought, was a such a star, but apparently that's not exactly true. A lot of people would say that Adam Sanlder always brings in the money, but what the hell happened to "Little Nicky"?

20 Million is a disappointment?? Not for this time of year. Not even for Julia Roberts. How much do you think the studio was expecting the first weekend?

Probably 26 - 28 million. Not much of a dissapointment actually. But the time of the year doesn't mean anything. I mean, look at Hannibal - highest opening for an R-rated film ever. And lets not forget such hit wonders like Down To Earth and Save the Last Dance.

This is clearly a disappointment for both stars. $20 mil 10 -15 yrs ago used to be a great opening. Not anymore. Not with movies openign up with 3000 plus screens. Not with movies like Hannible grossing 50 mil and Castaway with all it's millions and a host of others.

For the Real true star, Julia, this will not hurt her. Her next film will do fine I am sure.

For that wannabe star, Brad, he is in the Kevin Costner-Demi Moore boat. I think he should go the Nick Cage route and do something that gets him an Oscar nod, then do 2 oe 3 Bruckheimer films. He is still a name for god knows why. He really has had only 1 big movie, Seven. Can anyone name another? I liked a few of his films and they grossed almost nothing (Meet Joe Black, Legends of the Fall, Seven Years in Tibet). He trashed two of his films(seven years and the devils own) before they were released. That did wonders for the box office. Women love him, but they will not support him. No like they will for Harrison, Mel, Leo or even Tom and Tom. More men went to Fight Club to see him then women. I don't know why he still gets all the hype. His wife gets better grosses than he and she can't draw on the screen either. And if the mega box office current female champ can't help him only Lucas or Bruckheimer can.

This will not gross anywhere near 100 mil; the min measure for a true box office hit.

OH YEAH MAJOR ******SPOILERS************

IF I HAD KNOWN TONY SOPRANO WAS GAY IN THIS MOVIE I WOULD HAVE NEVER SEEN IT. AND WHEN WORD GETS OUT YOU CAN COUNT OUT ANY DRAW HE MIGHT HAVE HELPED IN IT.

Am I the only one who thinks that the trailer for this film was very modest? It tried to market this film as a romantic comedy with a bit of action in it. Action felt like standard TV series, none of the jokes were funny and the romance didn't seem inspiring at all. Most people seem to think that the film is just as average as the trailer made it seem to be. All big stars have modest successes once in a while and now it's Julia's turn.

BTW, the reason why Brad's career is not making better moneywise is the fact that he is more interested in playing interesting characters in original films instead of trying to be in big hit movies. Obviously Brad is offered roles in standard, big Hollywood movies all the time, but he simply turns those offers down.

I was surprised that it only made 20 million too, I was thinking it would make 29 or 30 million. But oh well, I think it will reach the 100 million mark eventually... Yes, that's right, I think this movie will make it to the hundred million mark. I mean, look at Miss Congeniality with Sandra Bullock, it didn't do that great opening weekend and ended up making over a hundred million dollars at the US box office. Other films have done that too...

This film is Julia Robert's third straight film to open at number one. She must be doing something right. Now if only she'd lose the gear, it's only the right thing for her to do for making her the number one female at the box office.
