I've seen lots of bad mouthing on Joblo when it comes to this film and I for one dissagree. Mind you the film is no masterpiece but it's well shot, entertaining, has some suspense, a good cast (except Freddy P) and is fun in a Scoobidoo way. At leasts it's played straight and is a return to the OLD slasher mold (minus tits n blood). The SEQUEL sucks the big one but I think the original stands on it's two feet as a flawed but watchable romp. Any other Summer supporters out there?

I must agree that I Know What You Did Last Summer is not an awful, but is good. A 7/10. Though the second one does really suck.

I liked the first one. Never saw the second one. You are right when you say it was a return to the slasher mold. It had the tits but they stayed covered, dammit Hewitt. The ending is well done in the Freddy/Jason mold. Unfortunately it seems they are going to try and turn it into a long running series. The ending of the first allowed for their to be a sequel. I almost want to see the 2nd one, despite the comments on its horridity, to see how the first was resolved and to see Hewitt in a bikini. A third one in the works, so I hear, seems a bit rediculous to me.

I know what you did last summer..You all rate it a 7/10! try a 2 or a 3...it was complete garbage..the only reason it was made was to cash in on the success of Scream..hense the writer of Scream-Kevin Williamson wrote the script this awful picture..
there wasnt anything original...guy with a hook..does anyone remember Candyman?...the scene where Hewitt is being chased back the store...remember Halloween?
you all have to watch some better horror movies, the only thing worth watching is hewitt's cleavage..

I Know What You Did Last Summer was horrible IMHO 2/10 Ammoniaboy is completely right the entire point of that movie was to cash in on the success of scream and unfortunately it worked.

Here, here Love's breasts do deserve more than a .5 bolster in your ratings /ubb/wink.gif
I don't even make comparisons between "Scream" and IKWYDLS. IKWYDLS is meant to be a teen slasher flick where, in my mind, "Scream" was intended as a parody/spoof of the horror genre. "Scream" was a comedy in my opinion where IKWYDLS was intended to be a horror film.
I thought Williamson did a good job in catering this film in the old slasher genre. Interesting death scenes, a mysterious killer, lots of darkness, and the climactic chase/reveal scene.

Well I must admit that at the time the "hype" of Scream turned me off it. And "Summer" witch I expected nothing from, entertained me. But today I'm sober and yes Scream (the original) is a better movie. Look for my "Summer" reviews coming soon and an interview with "Muse Watson" (the hookman) coming at the same time. He's a pretty kool guy.

Funny that you meantioned Scooby Doo in your first post Arrow when Freddy and SMG are doing Scooby Doo The Movie. Also, I couldn't help but think of a Scooby Doo chase at the end of Scream 3. I wonder why?

I thought this movie was ok.
At the time when it came out, there wasn't much horror in german cinemas ( exept for SCREAM ), so I was just glad to see something else than "Look who's talking 2" or "You've got Mail" or other similar crap.
I thought the acting was good ( I like Anne Heche, should have been more of her, Ryan Phillipe is totally funny - man, watch him in CRUEL INTENTIONS and S.M. Gellar is cool too ), the gore was ok ( but not much ) and the villan was kind of creepy too.
Now for my negative points :
The story was great! How they finished it off was terrible! There could have done soo much more with it! Sometimes, the movie crosses Fulci's-Non-logic territory : The killer has about 30 Seconds to remove a corpse and a whole lot of crawling sea-animals from a car and he isn't even seen! The killing of Hewitt's Sister was a letdown and some of the chase scenes were overlong.
After all, there are worse methods I could have spent my time on. It's an enjoyable movie, even if it's a SCREAM-rip off. Jesus, if you take that rip-off stuff that serious, Jason Vorhees is just a rip-off ( of Micheal Myers )too. I like IKWYDLS.
And yes... the sequel is terrible. Stick with the original.
I loved I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, it's one of my favorite horror movies. Although definately not as good as SCREAM it comes close. I think the reason why a lot of people didn't like it is because it's more of a Drama/Horror, it's more serious than a lot of other horror movies. Definately more serious than SCREAM... But I really liked this movie, I bought it and watch it at least once a year... I just loved the whole atmosphere of the movie...
By the way Ammoniaboy, it wasn't Hewitt getting chased back to the store it was SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR. And that chase scene was awesome (one of my favorites), and who cares if it borrowed from Halloween, it's a movie, it's bound to borrow from something, what movie doesn't have cliche's... And Dehydrator, it wasn't Hewitt's sister that was killed, she didn't have a sister, it was SARAH MICHELLE GELLARS sister, and I was glad she got killed, she was a bitch... Anyway, I loved I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, despite it having a few flaws. It was a movie, ENTERTAINMENT!!! The only real thing that bugged me was the trunk with the clams in it and the dead body and then 2 minutes later it was gone. You could never get rid of all that in a couple of minutes and it was in broad daylight, you mean to tell me nobody saw this, anyway, that was about the only thing that really bothered me. Other than that it was a really good and creepy movie! I just loved it.
By the way, who cares if it was trying to cash in on the success of SCREAM. What movie isn't trying to make money... Isn't making money the whole point of it, I think so!!!

I liked I KNOW.. but i much prefer the sequel. It doesn't try to take itself too seriously, alike the first one (oh, the drama!) and is exactly what slasher movies are about - kinda dumb characters, cool violence, and good scares etc. Good fun to watch with your mates. I'll have a bud please!
I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER - 8/10
I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER - 9/10
P.S. - I appreciate that I KNOW.. is a better film - but I LIKE the second one better.

I, for one, consider "IKWYDLS" one of horror's most underrated films. Solid acting, good thrills, involving story. Almost as good as "Scream 2".
I kind of agree with Morgan,
but I still like the first one better. But the second one wasn't too bad, sure it had a lot of flaws but the acting was great and I loved the setting (Bahamas), but they should have taken advantage of it being on the island... I really wish that the killer wouldn't have worn the slicker again, we already knew who he was, he didn't need the costume, maybe a jacket with a hood, but not a slicker... It definately didn't take itself too seriously... I prefer the first one but the second wasn't as bad as everyone is saying. In fact my cousin who is a horror movie buff prefers the second one way more than the first one. My cousin's a girl, she's 24, and LOVES horror movies, we watch them all the time and we love making fun of stuff and we love it when people get killed in them, people think we're sick but who gives a shit... Plus, my sister, who is also a HUGE horror movie fan, she's 29, prefers the second one... I still wish Kevin Williamson would've done the sequel, but shit happens...
Also, why does everyone hate Brandy so much, I was surprised with her acting ability in I STILL KNOW... She was really good, I know a lot of other people who would agree, but most people here bash her...
The main thing is the movie entertained me...
I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER 10/10
I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER 6.5/10
(not quite as bad as everyone else seems to think)!!!

The first one was ok but the second one is one of the reasons why I don't like sequals.

Anyone who is a real fan of the slasher genre should skip the film, but read the excellent teen novel I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER by Lois Duncan.
In the book (and here is where the film misses the boat), four teens are involved in a hit-and-run accident in which they kill a little boy, not a deranged fisherman with a hook (another imitation of FRIDAY THE 13TH's Jason).
The screenplay, much to my disappointment, was written by the usually brilliant Kevin Williamson of SCREAM fame. The hit-and-run would have been much more poignant if the victim would have been synonymous with the character in the book. Williamson is an obvious fan of the classic slasher flick PROM NIGHT, in which the victim (in a six years earlier" prologue) was a little girl. He should have copied that formula instead of the tired, bloody, nameless, faceless JASON-MICHAEL-FREDDY formula.
Of the actors, only Sarah Michelle Gellar, Johnny Galecki and Anne Heche save the film from sinking. Ryan Phillippe, a major talent, wildly overacts here as Barry; and Freddie Prinze Jr., who showed much promise in THE HOUSE OF YES, does the opposite and underacts with little-to-no emotion as Ray. Jennifer Love Hewitt is merely adequate as the lead character Julie James. An overrated waifish lightweight, Hewitt is NOWHERE near Jamie Lee Curtis's league.
This is an obvious attempt to cash in on the success of SCREAM. Movies like this, and their more disgusting sequels, are what killed the slasher genre in the mid-80's. They have killed it once again.
My grade: C

IKWYDLS was OK actually! I thought I'd be pretty disappointed but the scene where the guy gets the hook shoved through the bottom of his chin was cool! It also made me jump when the dead guy wakes up underwater. That was freaky!

As far as a slasher flicker goes? Yeah, pretty good. As far as a horror flick goes? A good rip off of a better movie ("Scream"). Come on, please, Ickwiddles is a good movie? No, don't think so. It had it's moments. Otherwise it's a well-written, well-acted slsher flick. Which ain't sayin' too much.
Come on, a rip off of Scream, I don't think so, just because it's a slasher flick doesn't mean it's ripping off Scream. The plots are pretty different and the atmosphere is very different. There was no comedy whatsoever in I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, but I laughed quite a bit during SCREAM. It's clear which one is the better movie but I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER comes damn close, I'm sick of hearing about this ripping off shit... The same guy wrote I KNOW... and SCREAM and maybe I KNOW... was trying to follow in SCREAM'S success but what movie isn't trying to be a success and make money... I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER was trying to make money, big deal, but it didn't rip off SCREAM, how can it even be called ripping it off when the same guy wrote both films. I could see it maybe being called ripping it off if it was a different guy that wrote I KNOW..., but it wasn't! So in my opinion, it didn't rip off SCREAM...
P.S. I also read the book, I have 4 different copies of it, they have a few different covers and I figured I may as well buy one of each... Anyway, the book was alright, but this is actually one case where I liked the movie better!!!

Okay, "ripping off" was a poor choice of words. But Ickwiddles surely would have never have existed without "Scream," so it was riding on the shirt tales of "Scream's" success. That's what I meant.
That sounds better night watchman... Sorry if I came on kind of strong, I got a little defensive, but still, I was just voicing my opinion...
