Just finished watching this film on Starz. Really enjoyed it. I loved Peter Jackson's views of what the girls saw. Really very entertaining.
Just wanted to see what everyone else thought

I loved this movie! The fact that it's a true story is a little frightening. I'll have to agree with you, Skaboy, it was really facinating to watch those 'dream' sequences. I thought the acting by Melanie Lynskey and Kate Winslet was excellent. It was their first go at it! After knowing more about the real people, their portrayals seem even more dead on.
I feel this film was visually impressvie throughtout, and states Peter Jackson as a true visionaory, roll on Lord of the Rings i say.

I agree with you both. Peter Jackson is one of my favorite directors. I am truly amazed at how much life he brings to his films.
The acting in this film was superb as well. I was quite surprised at how well Melanie Lynskey and Kate Winslet did in their first roles ever.

i got the dvd a while back but just watched it last night.
damn that was amazing. peter jackson never ceases to amaze me.
from bad taste to lotr, he is fucking spectacular. he's the only director thats never dissappointed me in the slightest.
and the visuals were just amazing. i love the clay figures, so freaky looking. the "mad" banner rolling down was great.
spectacular acting, it was one that i never disbeleived a moment from the 2 girls. they were perfect. the old lady from dead alive showing up was hard to take seriously after seeing her eat her own ear lol.
but definetly a 5/5 for me like all peter jackson's movies.
Melanie Lynskey and Kate Winslet should have gotten some kind of award for those performances. not many performances hit me like thiers did. i've not seen many that perfect before and probably never will.
is ther a book or anything on the net that talks more about the story? i'd like to learn more about it.

Excellent performances, excellent direction. Those two ingredients make the film. It's hard to wrap my head around the fact that the guy responsible for some of the most kinetic splatter flicks ever made had it in him to deliver such poignant drama.
EXCELLANT MOVIE! Haunting, disturbing, sad, TRAGIC.
If I was a pre teen and had seen those clay people, I would have had fucking nightmares for DAYS!
This one is a KEEPER. 8/10

A little bit of fun trivia for you guys. The character Kate Winslet plays later grew up to be a popular mystery novelist under the name anne perry. I see her books on the New York times best seller list all the time.

Why not move it to General Movie Talk since it isn't horror?
Gotta agree with you guys though, excellent movie

I just recently saw this movie as well, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd be lying if I said that the look of horror upon Melanie Lynskey's face during the climax was not haunting. Gorgeous movie, as far as imagery, scenery and acting.
Peter Jackson is a Director God in his own, offbeat way.

I'm not Crumb, but I'd say this flick is horror enough to remain here. It’s more disturbing and sorrowful than most fright flicks. Plus, it features a guy being impaled by a clay figure! If Requiem For a Dream and Panic Room can be discussed here, then this film fits the criteria. That's just my opinion, though. It really doesn't adhere to any one genre.
