The Boogens?

This is an older horror flick about monsters escaping from a mineshaft or something. I`ve never ever seen it, but I`ve heard lots of good things about it over the years. Anybody here seen it? If so, how was it?

I saw this movie many, many moons ago, and my recollection of it is hazy, but I remember liking it quite a bit. The monster attack scenes are pretty suspenseful, and overall I remember the acting, directing, photography, etc. being good for an obviously low-budget movie. The only real problem is that the Boogens, when you finally see them, look a little rubbery.

I tracked down the novelization few years ago, so my recollection of the story is based more on that than the actual movie. There was this weird ecology full of other strange creatures in the mines I don't think was ever seen in the film, and the ending of the book is much more of a downer.

I saw this flick on SHOWTIME during the early 80's. Anne-Marie Martin of PROM NIGHT fame co-stars as a chick who meets the title creature(s) while she's in the shower singing "She'll Be Comin' 'Round The Mountain"!!!
