Just got done watching susperia last night and didn't think it was all that great. The storyline was interesting as was the directing but from the way everyone talks I was expecting a lot more violence from one of his film. What would anyone recomend next? (preferably on dvd)

Suspira is about my all time favorite horror film...sorry you didn't enjoy it as much as I did...

Next I would recommend either Phenomena or Stendhale Syndrome...

It's worth it...check them out

It is not the violence that make his movies so great, it is the atmosphere, the overall sense of doom and the music that is so good.
Argento gets the plots for his movies from his nightmares, hence the nightmarish quality
of his films.

I love Suspira, give it another go, his movies are often an acquired taste.

The music in susperia was amazing! Really ahead of it's time. It reminded me of a mix of old NIN and Manson. With the whisper voices and guitar. The version of susperia i rented was from blockbuster, it this a cut version? Is there an uncut version out on dvd? I was thinking of picking up Inferno and Tenebre next. Stendhal Syndrome sounds interesting but I'm not really down with all the rapeing that sounds like is in it.

Are you sure u saw the unrated version MxChino? Cause the R version is a mess with most of the bloodshed cut out and badly edited.

MxChino, Most of Argento's movies are hacked by the distributers. You can however find uncut versions of his stuff if you look hard (and stay away from blockbuster)

I got real lucky, SBS, Aust, where I live had a kick arse doco about Argento then played Cat o' Nine Tails,(his second feature) uncut version. I taped both.

MAN IT ROCKED!

Well I rented it from blockbuster so im almost positive it was the R version. It did some kind of hacked up as i was watching it. ill buy the dvd of it when it comes out as its uncut.

I just recently saw Suspiria, and I thought the same thing. There were a lot of things to like about it, but it was such poor picture quality that I had trouble fully enjoying it. I also might have seen the R rated version. It didn't seem very gory at all, and there was no nudity.

I've only seen TRAUMA and SUSPIRIA. Argento is a talented filmmaker, but his films are obviously style-over-substance.

Are we talking Argento as a director or as a writer? Tenebre (Dir.) was a pretty awesome movie, but Demons 1 & 2 (Co-Wri.) sure did suck big donkeys balls.
