I really can't see why she was made as much fun of as she was... Moore did great, I think. She is a better actress than Foster, but only did an average performance of her standards. Still, can't think of anyone else than Foster that could do it better.

For me it's Foster I associate the character with. Her performance was somehow more memorable, but I think that had to do with the script of SILENCE. After the movie was over, we knew nearly everything about Starling. After HANNIBAL I didn't know much.

If both Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore turn down the Clarice role in the inevitable HANNIBAL sequel, there are many actresses who could fill their FBI boots. Namely: Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd, Helen Hunt, Gillian Anderson, Toni Collette, Helena Bonham Carter, Cate Blanchett, Robin Wright, Kate Winslet and Elisabeth Shue.
Too bad both Holly Hunter and Frances McDormand aren't a tad bit younger. They'd both be perfect as the G-woman.
With our luck, the producers will probably cast Gwyneth Paltrow or Winona Ryder.

I thought Moore was great! I don't understand why so many people did not enjoy her performance. But if neither she nor Foster could do it, I'd probably pick Gillian Anderson.

I'd go with Gillian Anderson, too. She actually looks like both Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore (who did an absolutely fine job as Clarice with the script for "Hannibal" she was working with).

There's an unwritten rule that you don't cast someone in a role that they've done similarly to another role so I can't help but think that you're wrong about Gillian Anderson. My choice would be Maura Tierney from "NewsRadio" and "ER" because she wouldn't take too much away from Anthony Hopkins and she can act in comedy and drama so Horror is just down the line for her. /ubb/smile.gif /ubb/smile.gif /ubb/smile.gif
And also, Julianne Moore was good in the role. The producers just need to give her a social life in the sequel. Maybe that's what the extra hour that was edited out was for?

I totally agree that Julianne Moore rose above her underwritten role in the HANNIBAL screenplay. Also, Maura Tierney from "ER" would be another great choice as the successor of the Clarice Starling role.
I have to go with the Ashley Judd suggestion. The absolute only reason I did not say Gillian Anderson is because I identify her so closely with Skully on X-Files.
