Do any of these titles ring a bell?

errrr....These are both really great movies, two of the best of the old school variety in fact. I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE still stands as one of the most thoughtful and atmospheric horror films ever made (As does the majority of Val Lewtons' work in the field), and the same could be said about THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER. Robert Mitchum gives a fascinating and scary performance as the Preacher, and the movie does a bang up job of combining film noir stylings with familiar motifs, many taken from horrific fairy tales. Both of these come highly recommended for those that still have a love for moody, black and white horrors. Is that what you wanted to know?!

THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER (directed by Charles Laughton) is one of my favorite psychothrillers! Robert Mitchum's role as the psychotic preacher foreshadows his more popular role as Max Cady in the original CAPE FEAR. A pre-harpooned Shelley Winters is good as Mitchum's "means to an end" (in my book, any woman who neglects or sells out her children for a man deserves everything she gets!). The two child actors portraying Winters' kids (Billy Chapin and Sally Jane Bruce) are pretty good, and Lillian Gish is great as always. Excellent direction by Laughton (a great actor who only helmed this one film!) and gorgeous black-and-white cinematography! Pretty scary in some spots, and always interesting.

Yep, on his knuckles....

Night of the Hunter is available on both VHS and DVD. [creep mode on] It's stocked by Amazon so you can support Joblo by clicking on the banner and buying it that way! [creep mode off]

Dunno about I Walked With a Zombie though, think its a case of trying second hand shops and collector's fairs...

Mitchum's Reverend Harry Powell character had "love" tattooed on one hand, and "hate" on the other.

I've seen THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER in video stores, and you can probably find it (as well as I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE, which I also liked) on E-BAY. I taped both films off of Skinimax.
