Which Thing-monster was your favorite in that movie: Norris, Palmer, Blair, or the dog?

The spider-head was probably the coolest part of the movie. It was funny and repulsive.

Though, for some reason, the creepiest part was Wilford Brimley stuck his fingers under the skin of that guys face. It was probably the simplest efx shot in the movie but I thought it was scary - perhaps because it seemed the slowest death by the creature.

THE THING (1982) John Carpenter's awesome remake of the 1951 classic "The Thing From Another World" (with a dash of "Alien" thrown in) centers around an alien monster that takes over the bodies of a group of men confined together in an Antarctic research station, where the creature embarks on a murderous rampage. Carpenter staple Kurt Russell heads the excellent cast, which includes: Wilford Brimley, T.K. Carter, David Clennon, Keith David, Richard Dysart, Richard Masur and Donald Moffat. Gory and ultra-violent, this film boasts excellent photography and Rob Bottin's electrifying FX. A misunderstood gem with a loyal fan following. My score: B+

Well, I don't remember the characters' names too well. I will say though that the spider-head definitely rocked. I also liked the scene where they were tied to the chairs. I wish the lighting was a little bit better during the dog scene. It's pretty difficult to tell what exactly is going on, but it was still cool.

There was a time when just to see the name John Carpenter would get me inside a movie theatre, THE THING is by far one of his best work, it is one of those movies that you can watch again and again never get bored and always find something new.
Most monster-inside-the-premises-crew- trapped-inside movies save the best for last and I have to say that my fav thing-monster is the very last one that Kurt Russell confronts in the basement (Have you noticed the similarities with the creature in "Deep rising"?) way cool design.

I've gotta say that the effects of that movie were excellent for their time. Actually some of those effects beat some of the more recent movies. The dogs were definately da bomb.

Hmmm. Loved all of the creatures in this flick - Rob Bottin did himself proud. Watched it again the other week (and by the way, the extras on the DVD are superb - a shining example of how good a DVD can be) and still marvel at the FX - my personal fave is a toss-up between the dogs and the spider-head.

Makes you realise just how fake a lot of the CGI stuff today looks when you go back and look at this film - OK the creatures were rubber and shit, but they don't half LOOK real!
