I'd give the grandprize trophy to Dead Alive. It was so gory, by the end the blood began to look purple. They probably ran out of money to make fake blood, so they just sloshed out whatever they could.

But an honorable mention would have to be The Evil Dead. The first time I watched that movie, I felt sick to my stomach it was so gory. I didn't feel sick watching Dead Alive - Evil Dead took itself a lot more seriously.

I guess you guys all found a version of Dead Alive that I haven't been able to (unrated) cuz when I saw it, it was decidedly UN-gory....but you could tell where the bad editing took place. Goriest I have seen....Evil Dead and a really weird movie called Psychos in Love. I don't think Faces of Death counts cuz it's more of a documentary.... but pretty nasty stuff.

Dead Alive is definitely the goriest movie I've ever seen. Jackson really outdid himself after Bad Taste.

In Bad Taste (Peter Jacksons 1st movie) a group of aliens have invaded a small town and used the whole population as a food source. A "elite" goverment gruop is sent to investigate what's wrong and of course all hell breaks loose. Jackson shot the film during weekends on a several year period with a budget next to nothing. It's campy, over the top gory and hilarious. One of my favorite movies.

the underated idle hands also was very gory, that was the last movie that actually grossed me out-that burrito scene was really disgusting...although Jessica Alba made up for it...
never seen bad taste, whats it about? any good?

Of the mainstream horror films that I've seen, John Carpenter's THE THING comes to mind.
