This is my second most wanted movie of 2002!!! I'm soooo looking forward to this more than TTT...(You know there are going to be mega-LOTR fans in here talking about how bad it will be, don't you??)

I am not at all interested in "Attack of the Clones". Episode I was a huge turn off for most fans, since it wasn't that good, except for the lightsaber choreography. I've seen the Episode II trailer a few times. It's a pretty weak trailer. I honestly think it'll be a snoozer.
I do, however, think Episode III will be good, as long as they don't fuck it up. Cause isn't Episode III the one where Anakin turns to Vader?
Justin Harris
Let me just state that I am a very big The Lord Of The Rings fan, and almost an equal Star Wars fan, but I don't let the love of either get in the way of how I feel about the two trilogies.
I'm willing to give Episode II a chance at the moment, we've not seen anything substancial yet, nor anything that we can really get our teeth into, so i'm going to wait for the first proper, full blown trailer until I begin to make any pre-conceptions.
As is nature with everything Star Wars, all the small, often insignificant, aspects surrounding it get blown out of proportion, which I learned to avoide after Episode I. I'm just going to see it for the film it will be, whether good or bad or average.
At the moment The Two Towers is my most anticipated film of 2002, but Episode II comes very close.

Go Attack of the Clones!!!!!!! woo-hoo!!!!! Anyways, I too think the trailer, and the info concerning the film is making it look weak, but I can still hope that it doesnt suck.

I have always been a die hard SW fan but you have to be honest and say EPI was not that great overall.
Sure I bought the DVD but I had to have it for the Duel.
I will see this movie but I will not be there on opening day like I was for EPI.
I recently saw the trailer in the theater before FOTR and I must admit I barely watched it.
Usually I would have shushed my wife and stared at the screen with rapt attention, hanging on every image.
But this time I was just like, hey there's the SW trailer. (it was the romace one).
I truly hope that EPII can rekindle the feelings I experienced with the original trilogy, but I have my doubts.
I do not want to make this a EPII vs FOTR thread but I felt more emotion during FOTR than I have felt from watching any movie in years.
And I have my reservations about Christopher Lee as the new villian. I love him as an actor and he can play evil and intimidating.
But can he play an acrobtic Jedi? It will be a great let down to go from a three way duel with Maul to a one on one flat footed fencing match.
I know they are throwing in Jango to take up some of the active fighting slack but I still wonder if I will percive Lord Dooku as a threat at all.
And what is up with his names anyway, did George channel Steven when he was thinking of his name.
Hmmm Darth..... Darth..... Stega.. no, no....
I have it Darth Tryranus, or however it is spelled!?
Well I know this will be a hot thread so hold on to your blasters.
And I often wonderd myself where is the hype, it is dead silence. I can remember being on the edge for 6 months before EPI came out, it was a media and product blitz.
Even on the internet there is little talk outside the dedicated SW sites.
That also makes me fear that EPII may have more in common with EPI than the original trilogy.

Well, I thought Episode 1 kicked ass! It was nowhere near as good as any of the original Star Wars movies though. As for AOTC, I'm looking forward to seeing it. Hopefully, Lucas will give it a very dark touch to it like in "Empire".
BTW, AOTC, The Two Towers, & Spider-Man are all tied for my most anticipated movies of 2002 list.

I know I'm not the only person who has ever loved Star wars since I was a little kid. Every time I see the preview at my work, I get goosebumps. Then I get so excited that I can't take it anymore. But there are lots of business I have to take care of before May 17th. Here we go...

Well, there is alot more news concerning TT than SW at the moment. Dont worry about it - you dont need 200 replies to have a good topic. Another thing though; there is no hype for this movie. I mean, people are still expecting it to be "the greatest SW ever" but I honestly dont know alot of people too interested in seeing this film. All of the people I went with to see TPM on opening day - they said they`ll wait for video. Im thinking about it myself, unless it gets good reviews. Im not expecting LotR type reviews (just rubbing it in lol .....sorry) but than again, not every film can get that many good reviews. .......lol Im just messing arounD. Anyways, well your up to post #9 if all your worried about is the number of replies.

Here is a pity post to keep the thread from slipping off the front page.
But seriously, I just watched a bit of my EPI DVD and I did get that SW tingle.
It is such a part of my childhood and life that I think the main reason I feel so reluctant to shout out loud about EPII is that if it is a bigger stinker than EPI it will taint the previous films.
And then people will point an laugh at you as you walk down the street in your "May The Force Be With You" Tee shirt.
Hey I had one when I was 8 so shut up!

I think that Episode 2 will be fun, cheesy popcorn. That's what the trailers are indicating. I didn't like Phantom Menace at all, but I think that the next SW movie will be a big improvement. It will probably have mediocre acting, mediocre script and mediocre directing. Fortunately it will also have amazing effects, sets and probably some very cool action scenes. I can't really look forward to the film with a passion. I believe it will be two hours well spent, but I can't see how it could involve me on a very personal level. It will be too light, too cheesy and too silly to really make an impression.
I like scifi films and action films, so I will probably like Episode 2 as well, and I think Lucas is aiming higher now than the last time.
But it is not among my 40 most anticipated movies for 2002.

Ok i am really comfused here can there be no body interested in Attack of the Clones that bad i mean come on people Star Wars is way better than Lord Of The Rings and i Gaurantee that this one will kick ass people have to realize that a good trilogy is like one big movie the soul purpose of Episode 1 was to introduce all the characters now the story is going to start taking off in the second one and BAM! the third one is going to make Lord of the Hype look like the story of Red Riding Hood. but ohh well your peoples loss.

Let's not turn this into a vs. topic, for the love of god.
Anyway:
http://cgi.theforce.net/theforce/image.cgi?Image=episode2/newspics/insider58-15.jpg
You know, I think with some work, they can actually make Jar Jar into a decent character. If he's more mature (meaning he won't clown around like a jackass), then he'll look like a sympathetic figure. By the end of Episode III, when they kill him, people won't cheer (well, not as much as they'd do know).
Common Sense Man
01-24-2002, 12:26 AM
You need to speak with Mr Glass about turning this into a VS topic, as that is all he seems to come back to, to validate his opinion.
If EPII cannot stand on it's own it will slip out of the limelight like all mediocre movies.
And I personally will stand up and cheer when Jar Jar gurgles his last breath on the end of Vader’s lightsabre.
I will be there to see EPII but as you can see by the lack or talk about it I think most people are taking the wait and see attitude.
Not wanting to go out on a limb to everyone they know by shouting the praises of EPII only later to find out they where wrong.
We shall all see in a few months but I think I can say with confidence that the hype level of EPII will pale in comparison to the previous SW episodes.

I don't think anyone other than Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Bail Organa survive (the good guys, i mean).
Perhaps it's the dodgy lighting in that Jar Jar image, but he looks a lot less convincing than his previous incarnation. Something about his face looks too shiny and smooth. Perhaps they haven't fully rendered him yet, but it looks like a finished shot from the clothing et al.
Some parts of Episode I he looked very well rendered, but that was only 20% of the time.

I think the reason this thread is dying is because....NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT EPISODE II!!!!! It's like a top secret movie that only people working on the movie (and spies) know about. The reason The Two Towers thread gets so many posts is because THEY KNOW WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN. Well not everything, but A LOT of the plot is in the damn books!! If they really want to know whats gonna happen they can just read the books. And there isn't a book about AOTC explaining everything that is going to take place so you can't really talk about much more than the previews, spy reports, and pictures!!!

Actually Horror, there is quite alot of information on this film. There is even an authentic scriptment (the script might have been changed, but it follows the same story) out there that I have read. Hence my non-excitement for the film. But anyways, dont worry about it Glass. The TT thread is just me Common Sense, ak, Tuukka, and Scorch talking about the movie. Sometimes other people come and post, and I dont really know why more dont - it would make it more interesting, but,.....yeah. Anyways, since your so worried about it, here is another post.
Actually, I would have though a discussion would thrive on not knowing too much about a film, as you can speculate a lot and discuss/argue what you'd expect to be in the film and all that jazz.
Of course (in comparison), it probably wouldn't thrive as much as a film that has a lot behind it already, but I think the main reason that Episode II isn't creating as much interest is basically because the hype just isn't there.
As a matter of fact, i've not come across any hype for the film.

I wouldn't put much stock into any "authentic scriptment". There have been "authentic scriptments" for Star Wars movies before, and they have never actually been authentic. There was a script for "Episode III" written and circulated online a long time ago, but never made into an actual movie.
I for one can't wait until Attack of the Clones. I actually liked The Phantom Menace, but this one looks much better. True that Jar Jar is still there, but at least Jack Lloyd is the hell out of there. Now we have Hayden Christensen, who is apparently a great actor (I haven't seen him in action yet).
I have high hopes for it mostly because it was described as a "romance movie" by Lucas. He described The Empire Strikes Back as a "romance movie", and that was not only the best Star Wars movie, but one of the best movies EVER. I don't know if that really indicates how good AOTC will be, but call it a hunch.
Does anyone get/read the Star Wars Insider magazine? I do, although I haven't had time to read it in a long time. I just got the latest issue, and plan on reading it soon. I can post whatever news I get out of it after I read it if you guys like.
Rock on Star Wars!
My hopes for the film were recently hightened today (Sunday 27th) when I downloaded the new Jango Fett documentary from the official site, which I think was called "Bucket Head" or something like that.
The action looks very dynamic, and the fight scene between Obi Wan and Jango assures my seat in the theatre alone (Jango looks like a really dynamic character in himself - Really like the metal costume).
Overall, I'm still holding judgement, but it looks more than promising.

Don't worry Mr. G. your homies will be here to keep this thread on page one!
I may not be jumping up and down waiting to see this as I was with, (shhhhh you know?)
But I still want to see it, and yes Jake is gone! WOOHOOOOO.
But I must say after seeing the other screen tests included on the EPI DVD, his was the best, how scary is that!
But yes good ol Jango will bring in the required villian/action factor that will be missing with the departure of Darth Maul.
I am still not convinced that Christopher Lee can pull off action with Haden, we shall see.
On a side note I read that Mr. Lee said his only goal now is to live long enough to see all LOTR movies released, he is 79. Thought that was funny!
And did you know the dude that played Lutz is in AOTC also.

Yeah, I read what you said in the Spiderman thread and it did seem pretty harsh, Common Sense Man. I didn't think Mr Glass was starting a competition at all, I'm surprised you (with all your common sense and all http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif ) did.
Now as for Star Wars, is it or is it not true that Samuel L. Jackson is going to have a much larger part in AOTC. Long ago I heard HE would be the Qui-Gon of the second prequel, but I haven't really had much time to pay attention to the hype lately. And since the hype hasn't been thrown violently in my face like some other popular movie right now (*COUGHLOTRCOUGH*), I'm not sure if that's true or not.
I'll have to check out the Jango Fett thing. Sounds cool.

I am personal glad that there is no hype for this one so that people might not go in with the hype syndrome and just enjoy it i think that this one will be the shit introductions are alway slow, i never really likes Star Wars (A New Hope) as much as the others because all it was doing was establishing characters

Well, this bit of info from IMDB should please Mr Glass (first buzz on the film I've seen in a while). I haven't checked out the link, but apparently the script looks good.
Episode II Spoiler?
A reviewer on the Dark Horizons website is claiming to have seen the script of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and has posted a glowing review that several film writers say looks legitimate, including "spoiler" information about the content. In the review ( http://www.darkhorizons.com/reviews/t020128a.htm ), critic "Ali" remarks that the story "delivers all the things that Lucas promised to do with The Phantom Menace but failed." He says that the most controversial character of the first episode, the computer-animated Jar Jar Binks, has been diminished (but is "not a thing of the past") and that the pacing has been accelerated. "The difference between the second prequel and its lackluster predecessor is the return to a sense of adventure," Ali writes, concluding: "It was an immensely enjoyable read."

And you are so wrong it is funny. If the sales for the Episode I DVD didn't prove it for you, the box office results for Episode II will!

Why must everyone compare LOTR and Star Wars against each other? LOTR is terrific fantasy. Star Wars is terrific Sci-Fi. I have a love for both stories. My one worry is that George Lucas has lost his storytelling capabilities. The Phnatom Menace was garbage all-around except for visuals(the acting, story, and dialogue sucked). Lucas can hopefully redeem himself but from what I've seen of the trailers, it doesn't look good. The dialogue and acting look as wooden as Phantom Menace or worse, and there's a corny love story tacked on to boot. And I wouldn't put any stock into the new reviews popping up. The same guy that reviewed the Attack of the Clones script at AICN said the Phantom Menace script was great back in 1999.
