I'm a horror movie fan, sort of, but I'm the type of person who sees a movie they like and sticks with it. So I've really only seen the MAJOR horror movies like HALLOWEEN, PSYCHO, TCM, FRIDAY THE 13TH, ELM STREET, ETC. I'd really like to see some other horror movies.
The problem is that I don't know which movies to see because I don't want to waste two hours of my time, watching a crappy horror movie loaded with terrible acting or cheap thrills and gore (not that I have a problem with gore). So what are some good horror movies that aren't so mainstream, but worth a watch?

I think it's fair to say that everyone has seen their share of duds, and that's something thats required from any horror fan
/ubb/smile.gif. But if you haven't, see the classics such as INVISIBLE MAN, DRACULA, etc.
Yea, I'll have to agree with CANDYMAN, thats a great movie.

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET was scary back in the day, when I was a high school lad, but seems tame today in comparison to the new breed of vicious slashers.

Thanks for the responses. I rented some movies that you all recomended and I thought they were really good.
SPOILERS***
Alice Sweet Alice - It was incredible and very vicious. I'm glad Brooke Shields got hers, though. She was a whiny little brat.
Stepford Wives - I dont think anyone recommended it, but I've always wondered about it and I wasn't disappointed. There was some incredible acting and a very eerie story. The only bad thing was that tripped out score.
THE SHINING STAR***** - BLACK CHRISTMAS
I LOVED this movie. Even though a lot of other movies copied the scenes (Namely Halloween and When A Stranger Calls). I was not let down with the horror and suspense, mostly because of the incredible acting (Olivia Hussey and Margot Kidder) and the killer is the scariest I've ever seen in a movie. When he was stomping down the stares, screaming like a LUNATIC, and he yanked Olivia's character's hair... Oh my Lord!!! I couldn't catch my breath!!!
THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTIONS
