I think most horror films and directors are in fact UNDERrated, and don't generate the respect they deserve.

True, those individuals who aren't fans of the genre tend to see images of blood'n'guts when someone says the word, HORROR. That is such an insult because, as all of us schmoes are aware, there is so much more to horror than mere gore. Of course, horror films get shafted constantly at the award shows as well so that Julia Roberts can snag another Oscar to put on her shelf.

As a horror film, THE EXORCIST is overrated, in my opinion. There's great acting, even Oscar-worthy. (Not sure if the acting was nominated, but I know it didn't win). I think THE EXORCIST could've been scarier, but that's not to say it wasn't "a good way to KILL 2 hours!"

Oh, I agree with "The Blair Witch Project" I didn't really like it too much. It wasn't really scary and I dunno the camera stuff just made my head hurt with all the wobbling.

Yes, the blair witch was overated. It was insanely hyped up on the internet before it's release. The most overated horror movie i feel was Jason goes to hell which i thought was quite shit but people kept telling me they loved it.

Blair Witch Project was the biggest waste of 15 dollars I ever made the mistake of wasting. On a nn horror note, I thought Traffic totally reeked of heinosity. It was boring, stupid, and boring.

THE EXORCIST is horrible. I used to say it was great but when I re-watched it (from not seeing it in years) I discovered it was boring, not frightening, and the religious crap was annoying. Those whom disagree with my opinion, do yourself a favor and watch it again. The only reason people liked it was b/c of the time it was released, just like the shitty Jaws.
I also think THE SHINING is overrated. Granted, it's a good movie but I feel people drool over it a tad too much.

I can't think of any more right now. While i totally understand WHY people like these films (apart from THE SIXTH SENSE - GODLY SHITE), they didn't do the biz for me.

I'm sorry, but i TOTALLY disagree with you. No matter how crap anybody says PHANTASM is, it is STILL CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED, and if it wasn't for people like me (and GREEN), nobody would care that this movie was ever made. That is a sad thing. Never before have i entered such a twisted mind than that of DON COSCARELLI'S.

I forgot about JAWS!!! The most overrated movie I've ever seen in my life. Drawn out and boring, and this movie could've been so good. It got off to a good start(I loved the first few attacks.) But then the last half of the movie totally took the Hollywood route, of course. Nothing in the last half of JAWS could ever happen realistically. Sharks don't keep attacking boats and jump on decks and what not. It's so ridiculous that it's almost a comedy.

THE SIXTH SENSE is also overrated. This movie has nothing good to offer except a cool ending (which was ruined for me anyway). Haley Joel Osmont has to be one of the most annoying child actors I've ever seen. How did he get an Oscar nod for that????!!!! He is VERY overrated and so are all of his movies.
