Ahh Sleepaway Camp, the very definition of a love it/hate it movie. Made in the slasher era derivative of Friday the 13th this movie contains some of the worst acting contained on tape from actors/actresses that have only this movie to their credit. It runs the gambit, including confused and homosexuality, a cook pedophile, the old crusty owner that dates the teenage counselors, the tough male counselors that wear halfshirts. Inventive killings and a mystery killer which everyone claims to know fifteen minutes into the film although not all the killings are done by the obvious. The Crying Game has nothing on this. Something keeps me to continue watching this, it goes for shocks that current directors can only dream. Watch it and right away you will know weather it is a hidden gem or a complete piece of trash.
Thumbs up from me.

I want to see this too but some people say that it sucks big time. I was gonna rent it the other day, but no video store in my town or the neighboring towns carry it. They also don't carry BABY JANE, which is another one I wanted to see!!!

I saw this movie which had me laughing at the language. What was this, The Sopranos childrens edition? Overall, I loved this movie. You know who the killer is, but the ending still has a shock. Rent it. As Green said, you'll find this movie either a hidden gem or a piece of trash. I found it a gem. But it's up to you.

Really good! 3.5 of 5
The sequel(part2 and 3) is good too !!!
Note: The killer in part 2 and 3 it's the sister of Bruce Springsteen (Pamela Springsteen)

UNKNOWN FREAK and JEN DAN...rent this baby for shock and camp value alone. Sit back, relax and drink a couple of brewskies! Don't expect CITIZEN KANE, though.

I *love* "Sleepaway Camp". I think it`s the best 80`s slasher flick. Some parts are just totally weird. And please everybody, DON`T give away the ending for those here who haven`t seen it yet!

Someguy good call on the Sopranos comparison. I find this movie to be a more realistic portrayal of teens because if you go to any ballpark or camp they are filled with profanity laced tyrants. Teens picking on the weak Lord of the Flies style for supremacy. Much more realistic then the hip talking/everyone's beautiful/pseudo film students of today's slashers. I laugh to think if Mr. Hiltzik brought his idea to a major studio in 2001, they would laugh in his face and probably kick him in the ass on the way out the door.

Everyone pretty much summed it up perfectly. I bought this movie just to fulfill my slasher movie crave and it is a good watch everyonce in a while. It is fairly well made but the acting was pretty bad. It had some of the most unappealing characters such as the cook and the bitch who thought she was hot and she wasn't. It is very campy and the setting is well done in parts. This movie is not as good as The Burning in my oppinion though.

Are Parts 2 and 3 really that good? I always figured they`d be goofy and dumb, since they were made by different people and had someone else playing Angela.

I've only seen part 2 and it's pretty much just blood & sex. Arrow has a review of part 3.

Sleepaway Camp is one of the better slashers and I actually got emotionally involved watching it. I felt sorry for poor Angela.
It progresses as a slasher film usually does, but we have mucho brutality here. Not kiddie stuff.
Plus the dialouge is bonus. I haven't seen it for a while, but all the swearing was REALLY funny. Ricky was the man...
