DEAD CALM (1989) Directed by Phillip Noyce. Sensational, stylish psychothriller centering around an Aussie couple (Sam Neill and Nicole Kidman) who head for the high seas in an attempt to cope with the tragic death of their young son, and cross paths with a psychopathic shipwreck survivor (Billy Zane) in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Sam is solid (as always) in hero mode, Nicole proves tough and resourceful in her first big role, and zany Zane plays the psycho role all too well. Superb score by Graeme Revell, and excellent cinematography by Geoff Burton and Dean Semler. The isolated setting is a big plus, as is Noyce’s taut direction. The film’s only downer: the triple-scare false endings in the finale (Billy seems to have more lives than Jason and Freddy combined!). My score: A

sorry Antonio for my double posts but I didn't know I had to wait for days to see my post, that's why you have 2 similar posts.
The film Dead Calm was good and a bit gory ( the severed head in the boat ) the bad was really too friendly but I liked his death which was creative.
I don't know why but I really thought that her wife wanted to go without saving her husband.
the bad was a bit too weak according to me.

Yeah this has great direction, but I also groan on how many times Zane comes back. He made a great pyscho as he was calm and reasonable one minute and loony the next. A great game of cat and mouse that could have ended several times with both side gaining the advantage. Its a winner!

Sam Neil, now there's a good actor.
Damien Omen, in the mouth of madness, event horizon.........wait, scrap that one.
