I didn't really start getting into the horror genre till was around 15 or 16. I remember being 7/8/9 years old hiding around the corner asking my mom what was going on whenever she watched a horror movie.
Anyone else scared of horror in the past but love it now?

The first serious horror movie I watched was THE THING with Kurt Russell. That movie scared the living shit outta me! I was about 9-10 at the time, so that night I asked my parents if I could sleep in their room. Gee, lucky me...they put me on the floor! All I could think of was that damn "spider head" thing crawling across the floor... lol

Strangely enough no! I've been watching horror movies since I was 7 years old, the first being The Omen.
It was so much scary as curious! I wanted to see more and to see other angles of horror. Admittedly, when I was young, everything was "just a movie son!" and so therefore I was happy in my ignorance of certain aspects of horror movies! I remember seeing JAWS when I was 6 or something and I crapped it! woke my old man up at some ungodly hour so he could take me to go pee!
Nowadays however... all growed up and all, being a grand ole dragon of 27, horror movies do have a certain effect, obviously decent horror movies have an effect, but that said, there are still very, very few horror movies that scare me. I understand things about psycological horror movies that I obviously didnt back then. And the same can be said for now! But, like I said, its got to be good!

I've only had a few exceptions as a kid. Nothing else really scared me as a kid. But the ones that scared me through childhood and still have a scare effect on me are Poltergeist 1 and 2.

those scary stories to tell in the dark books were the shit! i have 3 of them and reread them every now and then when i'm bored.
The only movie that really scared me as a child was Trilogy Of Terror. I watched it on T.V when I was 5..(Im 15 now)I believe UPN replayed it at that time. That movie scared the crap outta me..I was afraid to get out of bed because I thought the Zuni Doll was under there waiting to slash my feet..

Yes, very much so. So much so that it would be many years from the initial scare that I would actually become a horror fanatic. When KKFOS first started being shown on HBO, I was very young, and absolutely terrified by the film. After that, I never even touched a horror movie until years later. Then I watched it again when I was older, and it became a fav of mine, and was no longer scary.

I was seriously scared of horror films when I was younger. I was the wimp that had the nightlight. Never saw a Freddy or Jason movie till I was about 15. The previews scared me as a child.
Things changed when I was 15. I went to my cousin's house and he was watching Evil Dead. I sat down and had a lot of fun. I then realized that horror films were for me...I've never turned back since.

I've been a horror fan since I can remember. My earliest memories date back to age three, when I was an avid viewer of the horror-themed soap opera DARK SHADOWS, and watched horror films every Saturday afternoon on a television "matinee" (such as Hammer classic THE BRIDES OF DRACULA).
I also remember watching TRILOGY OF TERROR when I was 8 (when it premiered on ABC), and other TV-movie horrors as well (DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, DARK NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW and SALEM'S LOT to name a few).
I REALLY became an addict when HALLOWEEN single-handedly revived the slasher subgenre in 1978. The second and third slashers that I viewed (and loved) were PROM NIGHT and the original FRIDAY THE 13TH. I was an impressionable young teen at the time (13 in 1980).
Fear and shock are the only two feelings remaining in my emotional reservoir, which horror films seem to provide me with.

I saw Halloween when I was three, My mother took me to go see Alien when I was four. That did it I fell in love with horror/scifi.
Watched creature feature every saturday with my mom. I was seven when I saw the Exorcist and it scared me. I was scared even more later that night while sleeping. There was a thunder/lightning storm. My sister knew the thunder would awaken me and it did. I sat up in my bed and the lightning came and I screamed my fool head off and I ran to my parents room screaming the exorcist head is gonna get me the ecorcist head is in my room whaaaaa whaaaa. They went into my room, my damn sister she had one of those huge barbie heads you put makeup on and did their hair. She ratted that hair all to hell and put creepy makeup on her face. Jezz what a memory!

A couple, I had babysitters when I was young so I would see one here and again. There were only three movies I remember that I saw when I was young and couldn't sleep the rest of the night they were The first Nightmare on Elm Street, Evil Dead(I saw it when I was 11 and it warped me for life, think it was actually 2 nights I couldn't sleep with that one), and Deadly Blessing(which also scared the bejesus out of me). All three now hold a special place in my heart now.
