Great film, many of you would say that the film is only worth viewing for the FX but I totally disagree with these persons !! because of the eerie atmosphere, claustrophobia feelings, paranoia sweats from the characters.
great music from Morricone, not Carpenter this time.
great actors, especially Mac Ready ( Kurt Russel !! )

I saw bought it on DVD along with Vampires last Halloween. The Thing is my favorite Carpenter movie.

I wouldn't exactly call it a remake thought, the original thing is really nothing like Carpenter's version which actually follow the book much closer. The name of the novella is "Who Goes There" by John W. Campbell

I watched this for the first time when I was about 11 or 12...this movie scared the living hell outta me! It was the first serious (gore, actual scares) horror movie I'd ever seen, and I've never been the same since.

GOD BLESS JOHN CARPENTER!!! (At least, the old John Carpenter...haven't seen Ghosts of Mars yet)

Carpenter`s "Thing" remake is one of the best horror flicks ever made. Period.

I recently purchased "The Thing" on dvd awhile back and it was money well spent. The dvd adds the little extra edge the movie already had with some of the special features that come along with the disc.It has commentary with John Carpenter and Kurt Russell,(which I personally believe is one of his best roles,he was awesome as hell as the heroine/leader type guy),an 80 minute documentary on the making of the movie as well as deleted scenes etc. It's a great add on to any horror/science fiction fans collection.

I'd have to say 'The Thing' is my favourite John Carpenter movie. A great, atmospheric piece with some great suspense and SFX.

It used to be my favorite John Carpenter movie until I saw Ghosts of Mars earlier today. If you loved the secluded possession plot in the Thing you'll love it. As for the Thing itself I bought it watched it, then watched it, then again, and again. It is one of the if not THE best movie of it's time.

I consider The Thing and Alien to be the finest horror movies of the past 25 years. Any horror fan worth his gore knows that The Thing is quite simply a masterpiece.

"The Thing," is one of my all-time faves, I loved the claustrophobic feeling, and the ambiance generated by the movie was superb. I just love everything about this movie..

The thing is Carpneter's second best film. i think his finest moment is halloween. anyway, it is alos one of the greatest remakes ever, right next to The Fly and The Blob. It's a great flick to watch with Aliens.

One of my top 10 horror films and top 20 films in all categories. The scenes with the dog(s) were incredible. I love the paranoia theme of never knowing who may be The Thing (alien). The ending makes perfect sence. Carpenters best!

Hey did anyone notice in "The Faculty" there`s a scene that`s like a blatant copy off of the "testing everyone`s blood" scene?

countchocula

The Faculty is a blatant copy of The Hidden and Puppet Masters. There's really not an original scene in the entire flick. It was still pretty enjoyable, though.

Another thing about "The Faculty", did you notice the characters were modeled EXACTLY after the characters from "The Breakfast Club"?

Wwl66 - what makes you say that exactly? My comments about "The Faculty"? They`re true!

No it's just that you came into a horror chat room and admitted to watching the breakfast club.

Whoa whoa whoa, hold on now! I`m just as much a horror freak as the rest of you, but come on, "The Breakfast Club" was a decent flick, especcialy if you grew up in the 80`s.

Agreed Elgyn, if you grew up in the 80's then most of JOhn Huges movies are classics.

Hey I wasn`t seriously offended or anything man, I was just representin`! Pretty cheap about "The Faculty", though, huh?

Yeah, The Breakfast Club was pretty cool.

Yeah, I liked breakfast club an' all but that scene when they all start dancing, while probably cool in its time is cringeworthy now. And I also noticed the character similarity with the Faculty.
