View Full Version : Why doesn't Blair Witch 2 get more credit?

I just re-watched the movie and I like it even more than I already liked it in the Theater. There are so many things you just don't get on the first viewing and I'm still in the unknown about a lot of things. But fuck me, the rating at imdb is below 5 stars and lots of people seem to really hate it.
I mean, even if you don't like the actual movie you should give it credit for being a fresh air when stuff like URBAN LEGENDS or CUT & the dreadful SCREAM 3 crowded the shelves ( and the theatres). Why are so many people bashing the so called kiddie horror and then piss on a movie that actually demands you to think and isn't ( with the exeption of the Soundtrack but hell, I love Manson ) made to cash in on a particular target audience??
Then the acting - is it me or did this movie had the best acting in a 90's horror flick ever? Come on, Kim Director alone expresses more personality in one scne than Gellar, Campell and Hewitt in their whole careers! In my perfect world she'd be drowning in big Hollywood offers! She makes me wanna check out "He got game"! Jeffery Donovan's acting skills in this movie kick any male teen performer's ass bigtime in my perfect world he's be living Goodfellas-style by now. With the exeption of the admittetly hard sucking sherrif guy, the acting is fabolous by everyone involved.
Then the story - people complain about Blair Witch Project because it "had no plot". Plot is allover the place here, this movie has the most intelligent and clever thought out plot in a 90s horror movie. My serious opinion. What about the miscarrige thing? It takes a lot of balls to include something like a misscarrige in a horror movie without making it exploitive and ridicolous ( Being traumatized by THE SUCKLING, I know what I'm talking about )
What about the icky, confusing structure? Does that seem as run-of-the-mill teen horror? I've given up to go mad everytime the original Blair Witch get's blamed for ripping off Cannibal Holocaust, but you can not, by any means accuse Book of Shadows for ripping something off. MEMENTO has yet to face an european release (so I think) but until that comes along, I'll be just mindfucking myself with Book of Shadows.
I can't wait for Blair Witch 3. I'd be taking that over another SCREAM, FRIDAY or HALLOWEEN sequel any day. Anyone with me?

Blair Witch 2, was terrible. The acting, especially by Kim Director was god-awful, it was if they were reading off cue cards. There was no suspense or scares. It was just a quick way for Artisan to try and capitalize on the original Blair Witch.
It doenst get more credit because it fucking sucked!!! The first one was great but they ruined it with that piece of shit sequel.
I must say that I liked it better then the first.

I agree with you on this one. A looooong while I ago I bought Blair Witch 2 on Pay Per View and how I dooooo love that movie! I was pleasantly surprised, judging by the trailers I originally thought it was going to be a run-of-the mill slasher take off with your Token Goth and what not.
But man, that movie was excellent! That's why I've been so surprised at the negative backlash against it. I think either some people were still expecting a bunch of kids to be running around in the woods with a video camera, or some sort of a slasher, and got pissed off (but hey, rather be pissed off than pissed on right? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!) when it turned out to be a mental mind fuck movie instead.
And my response to that, in the immortal words of Frank N. Furter, "A mental mind fuck can be nice!"

Book of Shadows:Blairwitch 2 is a GREAT movie. I think it was one of the best movies of 2000. It's great,it's different, and it fucks with your brain. I also thought The Blairwitch Project was also good, but the 2nd was better. I just don't get why people hated it,it's a brilliant film!

blairwich one was interesting, but you only find it interesting the first time you watch it.
you can easily predict that the second one would be quite stupid if they needed a budget ten time bigger than the first one to make it.
anyway keep far away from that crapt.

I completely agree, Ghostface, definately check this movie out... I didn't like the first one either but I loved Blair Witch 2. It was an awesome mind fuck movie. I saw it in the theater opening weekend and I was pleasantly surprised, I went again the following weekend with two friends that hated the first one. I had a hard time talking them into going because they HATED the first one but I told them Blair Witch 2 was excellent and if they didn't like it I'd give them what it cost for the ticket. They agreed and we went and they loved it. DO NOT make the mistake of not seeing it, if you didn't like the first one, then this one is for you. I thought it was excellent...

Ok, I loved the movie but I didn't think the acting was that great. It was only mediocre, not that good but not horrible either. But since I loved the movie I was able to overlook the acting.
I own Blair Witch 2 and I absolutely love it, one of my favorites of 2000.

I've only watched it once. I thought it was good and thought there were some genuinely spooky moments. I bought the DVD used a few months ago but haven't watched it yet. I'm gonna try to set down and watch it soon to see what my second thoughts are.

Well, first of all, people decided they weren`t gonna like the movie before it even came out. By the time of Part 2`s release, a "Blair Witch" backlash had already delveloped, and people who still DID like the first movie were pissed that a sequel was made at all. So there you go, instant negativity before it even came out.
Secondly, some folks just didn`t know what they were getting into. "BOS" wasn`t like the original, but it also wasn`t a 'traditional' horror movie. So people watched it, didn`t get what was going on, and walked out saying "what the fuck?".
Personally, I love the movie. I think it`s better (by far) than the first, and I also think some "Blair Witch" bashers liked it, but simply don`t want to admit "Shadows" was good.

I liked Blair Witch 2. I didn't think I would, but I did. I thought the plot was very unique and that alone, made it something special these days. I thought it was kinda scary and very interesting.
The acting didn't seem all that great to me, but it didn't seem all that bad either. While I didn't think Kim Director was an amazing actress, I thought she was decent. Kim Director ia very pretty though and I wish she'd have gotten topless, instead of the other girl. But, I digress...
Saw this film a long time ago and have wanted to buy it ever since. I've picked it up to buy it in video stores twice now, but ended up putting it down. But soon now, very soon...

I hated the first one, so I never bothered with this one until I saw it on HBO. I was really surprised by how much I liked it. It's not the best horror film ever, but it's way better then the original. But that's just my opinion.

I just watched it, and I'm sorry, but I thought it was a bore! The only good thing about it was that hot redhead and that brief full-frontal of hers!
