Opera Question........

Finally got my replacement today,along with Moonlighting-The Pilot...Anyhoo...It was very good IMHO but my question is why is William McNamara's(the guy from Copycat) dialogue dubbed? From looking at his lips it appears he was not speaking Italian....Anyone more familiar w/ Argentos work please clue me in..Thanks

Yup. It was dubbed alright. But not all the parts

I think it's because all Italian films were( and probably still are) post-synched, meaning that they never use 'live' on-set sound. Reading the interview with Jessica Harper in the ltd.ed. SUSPERIA booklet, she confirms this, stating that some actors spoke Italian, English and German on set, knowing they would be dubbed later. She also mentions that in some scenes, the art dept. would be constructing sets behind the one they were filming on, making it hard to concentrate!

Still waiting for my replacement OPERA DVD......grrrr.....

Yes, that is Mr. Saovi playing the cop. About the dubbing, ifyou only dub certain actors and not others. This becomes noticable in each scene. The background soundtrack is not balanced, you'd get studio sound and then previously recorded tracks. This throughout an entire movie would sound worse. So, in a case where you need to dub a film because of the actors accents and lack of the experience with the English language. It is best to dub the whole thing and believe it or not it doesen't take as long.

Well, I picked up the Limited Edition DVD. It was the version 2.0 so it is the fixed version and it worked perfectly. Anyway, this is now my favorite Argento film, I thought this one was better then Suspiria.

I never really paid any attention to the dubbing. it is just a given with me that most movies from other countries are going to have that problem so I just accept it. In my opinion somehting worse is a dubbed movie with English subtitles that don't match.

I got my replacement disc yesterday along with the book Lurker in the Lobby very nice treat.
