I have been reading very good things about this 80's vamp flick for a few years now. I went to a local store to see what After Halloween DVD sales they had. There sat Fright Night with a 9.99 sticker slapped on it. I immediatly grabbed this bad boy and headed home. Man was I suprised! This film is fantastic! Chris Sarandon is great as the vampire neighbor and Roddy McDowall is as good as ever.
Plot:
A teenager (William Ragsdale) hears a woman scream in the neighboring house one night. The next night he sees what he believes is a murder. He believes that his neighbor just might be part of the undead. Who does he call? Why not call good ol Peter Vincent, the host of Fright Night, a late night horror film show. After all, he is a "vampire hunter".
This film is great fun. It has enough gore to make anyone happy and a great story. How can you go wrong with Chris Sarandon and Roddy McDowall? This is a must see for any horror fan.

Did anyone one else feel that Evil Ed's death was painful to watch? I was suprised that the death scene was as long as it was. It wasn't quick and it wasn't pretty. Anyone agree this scene was powerful?

I liked the movie Fright Night, I thought it was quite fun.
I also agree with what your saying about Evil Ed's death. I really liked the character, or maybe the little geek reminded me of a little geek in me. His death did seem drawn out and very sad.
I really wanted this character to go on and be the central bad dude in a that inevitable sequel that always seems to happen. Instead, we got a sequel that hardly had anything to do with the original.
Does the DVD have any extra stuff on it?

Fright Night is one of my favorite Vampire movies. Very cool plot, old school vampire rules, cool effects 9/10

I think the reason, at least for myself, Ed's death was so painful to watch is it started out while he was in Wolf form, and it was like watching an animal suffer, but even as he changed back to human form it was still rough. Aslo Amanda Bearse looked great as a vampire
The sequel didn't hold a candle to the first one, they should have revolved it around Evil Ed.

-Spoiler-
Judging by the final scene of the movie Evil Ed didn't really have a death scene. I wasn't sorry to see him -almost- die, his shrill voice was far too irritating. I actually kind of liked the sequel, it wasn't as good as the first but it worked.

Goblyn, there aren't very many extras on the disc. We get a trailer and that's about it.
I still haven't seen the sequel but I plan on checking it out sometime. I was disappointed to see Ed die, he was one of the best characters in the film. We all know someone like him. Someone a little strange. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif

Fright Night is certainly a better than average vampire flick but not my favorite.
Watch : Near Dark and The Lost Boys, these are really classics.

I don't think the sequiel really seemed to be all that connected to the original, but still it was alright. Not nearly as good as the original, but still alright.

Ah, Fright Night, a true camp classic. And I agree with Skaboy on Ed's death scene. I think the reason it was so long and involved was because it was suppose to show that far from being an monster, Ed was actually a victim himself. Pretty cool way to go about it, IMHO.

I love both of them. And I thought the second was well connected. It may not follow only a few simple rules like the first, but you got the 2 main stars back, and the vamp was connected to the one in the first one.Good okd revenge motive.

Yes, I agree that "Evil Ed" Thompson's (Stephen Geoffrey's) death was powerful, but he had to die. Because before "Evil Ed's" death, Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowell) was extremely reluctant to stand up to vampire Jerry Dandridge (Chris Sarandon). But after "Evil Ed's" death, Vincent realized he had to
stand up to Dandridge, or there would be more victims like "Evil Ed." Enjoy

I also like the series. Too bad they probably won't release Fright Night 3...
Hey, is FRIGHT NIGHT 2 available on DVD? I can't find it anywhere.

Yeah this movie is pretty great though I dont remeber much about it. I have to watch it again, Did Fright night 2 have any of the same characters or anything in common with this flick?

Both Charlie and Peter return for the sequel, although Charlie has a new girlfriend. And the main vamp is the sister of the original.
