View Full Version : Do you eat while watching horror?

The other day I was about to eat something...(I dunno what it was...chicken, pizza...vagina...one of those things) and then I popped in Jason Goes to Hell: THe Unrated Version...and suddenly during the previews I remember saying, "Wait a minute! I can't eat this! Why...what if it makes me vomit?"

Gore doesn't really bother me. But Gore + food...yeah, that can unsettle my stomach.

I've got certain rules about eating during horror. For one, I won't eat unless I've seen the movie ahead of time, unless it's like popcorn, candies..that thing..but I'm talking real food! Like hamburgers, meatball subs, kung pow chicken, that type of thing.

I don't take that risk unless i've already seen the movie and think my belly can handle it.

I had a friend that rented Hannibal via the Pay Per View and was sitting down with some meat loaf...right when that whole 'brain food' scene happened. I pitied that fool.

So anyhow, what're your horror eating habits? Got any disgusting stories involving food and horror?

I usually need my pizza wih all kinds of stuff ( exept meat ) and extra double cheese. With this comes a glass of red wine. That's the usual things I swallow while watching a horror film. I prefered to stay hungry by watching CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST ( right decision ) and GATES OF HELL. The only movie that made me want to puke was ARACHNOPHOBIA, too much spiders for my arachnophobic ass. Gore doesn't bother me either, I ate Pizza while watching BAD TASTE. It's just a fun movie anyway.

I've yet to meet a horror flick that would put me off my dinner. When I'm watching a good video I usually opt for either Cheese Twisties (a popular Australian snack, similar to Cheese Puffs) or Doritos. Or, if I'm on a health kick, a nice bowl of tabouleh (Libyan cracked wheat & parsley salad...yum).

I munched a meat-feast pizza slice during Event Horizon, while my housemate had to put his portion down until the film was over. I guess horror effects different peoples' appetites in different ways.

Popcorn/candy stuff can be consumed during any movie.
And the only times I can think of as far as real food, was the first time I saw Ravenous, I was having steak that night, but really it only enhance the experience! Other than that one cannibal movie, I'm not sure if I could do the same with the foregin, more gory cannibal movies, I will see. But I think I already know that when its REALLY gory there might be some problems eating anything meat, like those surgery ER shows on TV, they get pretty graphic, and it makes me want to stop eating.

My eating habits aren't affected by the horror films I watch. I once had a hot dog while watching Re-Animator. It didn't bother me a bit. The only time I've ever had to put off food during a flick was when I first saw Species. I know, it isn't exactly a gore fest, but that cocoon scene churned my stomach considerably.

I can do some light snacking. I have a strong stomach, but I probably wouldn't eat during "Bad Taste" or a Zombie flick.

Hey Dehydrator, are you a vegetarian too? Are there any others on the board?

I'll happily eat dinner during pretty much any horror film. I'm not squeamish when it comes to on-screen blood and guts. Nothing like a plate of pasta and marinara and a good zombie flick. Mmmmmm

haha, anyone else think it's funny that Tokenfatguy came up with the topic on food?

not trying to be a dick, just pointing out the irony

I won't eat during a horror flick unless it's something dry, like popcorn, or chips or something, anything that's moist, ie pizza, sub, or anything like that I pretty much stay away from, justout of common sense

All bullshit aside, I have a friend who has literally eaten a movie, or at least a piece of one. It was an older "Raiders of the Lost Ark" video and we, being somewhat inebriated to the Nth degree at the time, dared him to eat some of the tape inside of it. He promptly threw it very hard and busted the cassette up against the wall and grabbed a handful and started chewing on a fairly large amount of some of it. He actually swallowed some and curiously complained of stomach pains later that morning. Never play dare games with your buffoonish pals after your tenth shot, ok? But hell yeah, give me something to eat during ANY movie, especially "Bloodsucking Freaks"

Blue rose - are you vegetarian? I've been an on-and-off veggie for years. I even went vegan (no animal products whatsoever) when I was dating my last boyfriend - a bodybuilder & health nut, oddly enough.

I think eating steak while watching Ravenous is a GREAT idea!! I've been trying to plan a horror-themed party, and we could come up with some great ideas on what to serve at it on this thread. For example, one could serve plit-pea soup at an Exorcist party. I'd like to throw an Evil Dead party; what could I put out for suitable munchies??

Yes Feyd, I'm a vegetarian. I would like to be a vegan but it's just too difficult. I do try to stick to organic milk from animal friendly dairys and only free range chicken eggs. It's hard to control what is used in processed foods tho so I try to avoid them when I can. Luckily, I love to cook and am pretty good with tofu if I do say so myself.

I'm more worried about distractions though, that's why I don't eat nachos and watch movies at the same time.

I ate a barbeque sandwich after I watched Parents. That made me kinda sick. Not that Parents is really gory or anything, but still. The thoughts got to me. Is this really pork, or people?

(Sorry to go off-topic here...)

Blue rose, try soya milk. If you want to go vegan and aren't a big egg fan, that's the way to go. My supermarket in London used to stock a brand of soya milk that was sweetened with a little apple juice so it didn't taste disgusting. I love tofu, but it's hard to find in supermarkets in Oz. The whole country's really big on the meat diet.

As for the Evil Dead party I'm planning, I was going to show the whole trilogy and invite people to dress up as characters from them (guess how many Ash's are going to turn up for this...). I thought sheep's-eyeball soup for the second viewing (I've got the recipe...no, seriously). Any other suggestions? Otherwise we're going to have to resort to pizza with all the trimmings.

I eat anything usually during horror movies and do not care, unless I know there is a vomit scene I will not eat during but after I can. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/tongue.gif

In a theater: popcorn with lots of butter!

At home: I'm with DEHYDRATOR on this one...Italian food with lots of red wine!

On Halloween: Candy, baby...candy! Especially the "candy corn" that Norman Bates ate in PSYCHO!

I don't care about that, you know.
I mean when I am hungry than I eat, don't care about the gruesome murders à la Cannibal Hollocaust or Zombies from Fulci.

Hahaha, no harm Mojo. As soon as I posted it I was thinking, "Holy crap, my name is Token Fat Guy and I'm posting about food. I am sooooo living the gimmick!"

Anyway, I'm impressed some of you people got steeeel stomachs.

Whenever I watch any of the Phantasm flicks, and somebody like the Tall Man's cut or bleeding or whatever...I ALWAYS get a craving for mustard. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Last night I was watching Phantasm: Oblivion, and chowing down on York Peppermint Patties..but hey, that's candies so I don't count the candies.

I'm just peculiar with my foods I guess. Even though I originally claimed chicken, pizza, and vagina might make me vomit during a gory scene so I stay away from 'em...I fibbed. Yeah, I know. I just used those build ups so I could say vagina

lol

But BEEF. That's another story...although, I am dying to have a bowl of chili while watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.

And FeydRautha, I loooooove the idea of an Evil Dead Party with sheep's eyeball soup! It just fits! Unfortunately, I can't think of anything to go with it. Unless you made like Little Ash gingerbread men for Army of Darkness!

Other than that, I'm really at a loss.
