Ladies and Gentlemen,
My name is Vic. I am an entertainment guru and a past film critic. I am only 30 years old though, so dont think i am "stuffy" and have an over inflated ego like most critics. I love to debate! especially about movies and tv. I have been reading alot of the posting and I have posted a few replies here and there....but i realize some of the convos are just people saying..."i like that trailer..the movies going to rock!" or "does this movie look like crap to anyone else?"
I am asking for more than those types of postings. Everyone in here loves the movies or they wouldnt bother posting all the time.
So, my question to you is this...what do you think has been the worst movies THUS FAR THIS YEAR (NOT WHAT MOVIE YOU THINK WILL TANK BASED ON ITS TRAILER CAUSE JUDGING A MOVIE BASED ON A TRAILER IS JUST STUPID) and what movie has been the best you have seen THUS FAR THIS YEAR?
Now for me...the worst....TIME MACHINE. Boring....boring....boring...uninteresting...the only thing kept me awake was the popcorn i was eating while wasting two hours of my life away.
I dont think i have seen a movie i would call "the best" yet....so i am still thinking on this one.....
So, lets get these debates rolling! no egos...no feelings hurt...just movie lovers talking about movies!

So far the worst movie of the year is...
Slackers- What a piece of shit. Some funny moments dont make up for it being boring.

BEST: We Were Soldiers: 9.5/10
WORST: Jason X: 6/10
I didn't think Jason X was bad at all, I actually really enjoyed it, but it's the lowest rated movie of the year.

Oddly enough, the best film I've seen this year, is The Count of Monte Cristo. Well not the greatest film in history, I had a swashbuckling good time in the theatre, and left impressed on many accounts. Then again, that may just speak testaments about the horribly slow year we are having thus far.

Best Movie: I finally got to see We Were Soldiers (9/10) and it was incredible! Terrific acting, writing, directing, cinematography, editing, music scoring, it all came together for one, in the words of Jack Black, "entertainment burrito." My only problem: it was a little bit corny until the troops actually got to Vietnam.
Worst Movie: I'll have to go with Collateral Damage (4/10). It just....didn't work well. Sorry Arnie, wait for Terminator 3 to make your comeback.
This one'll be moved to the Best/Worst/Favorites forum pretty soon, I predict.

The best movie I've seen this year would have to be The Royal Tenenbaums (9/10) but I think that was actually released last year so I don't know...
Worst movie... hmmm Orange County (5/10).
Also, I would like to say that I enjoy Kung Pow. It has some nice MST3K style humor in it.

Jesus Christ, I really didnt expect this many replies that quicky! Man, this website kicks ass!!!!!
For all who have said thus far that Rollerball, Queen of the Damned (or as i call it I be Damned I saw this piece of shit), Kung Pow, the Time Machine and Imposter...I TOTALLY AGREE 100%!!!!!
It seems We were Soldiers seems to be the people's favorite thus far.
I cant comment on Jason X cause it hasnt been officially released yet....has it? or am I just over looking it?
I hate to say this outloud....could hurt my chances of working with Roger Ebert one day...but I liked The Monte of Crisco alot. Great "popcorn" movie! just eat popcorn and watch stuff that you dont have to think about...sometimes that is what the doctor orders!
Any of you guys got any predictions that this week slew of releases (Showtime, Resident Evil and Ice) will make the best/worst movie list soon?

I don't think enjoying The Count of Monte Cristo hurts your credibility in any way. I thought it was a near-great movie!
My predictions of those three:
Ice Age: 8/10
Showtime: 7/10
Resident Evil: 4/10
the count of monte cristo... a spectacular film...
reminds me of what i want to do right now
10/10
Strider

WORST: Crossroads(1/10)

Best: THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO (8.5/10)
Worst: A WALK TO REMEMBER (5/10)
AWTR was simply OK, it would never go on a "worst-of" list. I was one of the few who actually liked CROSSROADS, so that is the reason it isn't the lowest. Technically, the IMAX version of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST was the best film I saw this year, but I don't think that counts.

Best: I know Im going to be ripped a new one for this but Im going to say Orange County. What I loved about the movie was the fact that it was a teen movie with MEANING. I was surprised by how much I liked it.
Also a far better film but not a film of this year is Monsters Ball. This was anawesome movie that I just saw a week ago.
Worst:The Time Machine- God what could have been a great movie was just boring plain and simple.
The Count of Monte Cristo- Not awful but simply vacant. Although I had fun watching Guy Pearce.

the best:

the time machine was not that bad... it was better than that overrated black hawk down IMO.

Best: Black Hawk Down
Look, I don't care about the lack of character development. This movie was about the mission, not about the Italian guy or the guy who always wanted a family. This movie was so powerful and emotional I almost cried at the end.
10/10
Close Runner-up: Resident Evil
Boy, this movie is the most fun I've had at the theatre in a long time! Me and the audience loved it. 9/10
Worst: Time Machine
4/10

they have been so many craps that have been released lately that I do have difficulty to decide witch one is worst. But well, I didn't watch them. Slackers, Kung Pow, Rollerball, Crossroad. I didn't watch any of those really crap movies. Out of those I saw, I would say Collateral Damages was the worst. Damn, that was a bad script!!! A rare thing, I walked out on this movie and sneak in another room to watch A Beautiful Mind a second time.
On the other side, I didn't saw many good movies yet. It's kinda the dead period right now. Damn, I can't think of any I trully would say were great (I didn't saw the fave most of you mention : We Were Soldier) and I didn't like Count of Monte Cristo that much (6.5/10). Hmm, I can't come up with anything else then Italian for Beginners witch isn't an amazing movie, but the best I can think of.

Kung Pow was cool! It reminded of a good episode of MST3K. The old guy(who was the narrator) fucking rocked..."Look at it! It's like a stomach plug, I mean it's not even possiable."....LOL funny dialoge but most of the CGI things sucked and weren't funny.
Worst movies this year:
Crossroads
Village of the Dammed
All about The Bengirmans
Rollerball
Showtime
Slackers
MIB2...I know it's going to suck along with Matrix 2 right beside Red Dragon

Well, I've only seen 4 films this year...and only one of them was good.
BEST: 40 Days and 40 Nights (7/10)
WORST: Snow Dogs (4/10)
Of course, that's just so far. I'm sure I'll like some movie better than 40 Days, Snow Dogs could still be the worst movie of 2002 by the end.
