I just came from scarecrow video to rent Black Christmas and I was talking to a guy who works there and he told me that, its a classic debat if Halloween is a Black Christmas rip off and which one is scarier. SO I decieded to watch the movie and put it to the test.Is Halloween a rip off, in my opinon NO, I feel even though there both about serial murders, Black Christmas was more mysterious and had a whoole diffdernt feel.Halloween was more of a maniac slayin bodies all around the neighborhood.
Which one is scarier, well if I was a younger under 10 they both would scare the shit out of me, but today, my vote goes to black Christmas, that shit was just playin freaky, I rather be chased by Micheal than Billy, Billy really had some issues to deal with, all that screaming and shaking he was doing, and all thoose difernt voices.UHH CHILLSSSS

Black Christmas was better, scarier and more entertaining. I wouldn't call Halloween a rip off although it did have some similarities to Black Christmas. I can't really remember Halloween that much but weren't the opening shots of the film the exact same as the opening shots of Black Christmas?
anyway i loved halloween but i do think its a bit overated. Black Christmas was better movie.

I've yet to see BC, but I do know that Halloween was originally supposed to be a BC sequel, but then it became its own film with Carpenter at the helm. A lot of ideas that were discussed for BC and BC2 were incorporated into Halloween. Halloween got all the mainstream recognition, fame, credit, money, etc. and launched Carpenter's stellar career. So I would not call it a rip-off, as the director of BC Bob Clark even lent some of his ideas to Carpenter for Halloween when no BC 2 was going to be made at the time.

Both stand alone if you ask me. They both set the mold for slasher films and are two of the best. The killer in BC was random where Michael had more background to him. The only simularities that they share are that they are seasonal slashers. I think both are in almost everyone's top 10. I haven't seen a bad review for either of them. If anything, not sure if it came out before or after but When a stanger calls back is more of a ripoff of Black Christmas.

THE PROWLER hit the nail on the proverbial head with this one...both HALLOWEEN and BLACK CHRISTMAS are stand-alone horror films. Both are equally great and equally scary. Although HALLOWEEN was ultimately more powerful, BLACK CHRISTMAS boasted more interesting supporting characters.

Black Christmas is way scarier than Halloween, In my opinion. It has more atmosphere, more suspense, greater characters (That didn't get on my nerves like Annie or that Blonde slut), A truly horrifying villain, and a great ending that is more chilling than Halloween's all-too-similar ending.

All good opinons. I agree much with Proeler and Antonio, they both are stand alone films. I give both of them a Grade A, both classics in there own way to me.Like the Prowler said , if any 2 movies should be in a contest of a ripp-off it would have to be Black Christmas against When a Starnger Calls Back (I also dont know which one came first).

I like BC better than Halloween. They both scared me, but BC more so.
