Evil dead 2:Remake or sequel?

I have seen evil dead one and two recently and was just wondering what the hell is goin on here.In part two ,ash comes back to the cabin and acts like none of the shit from the first one never even happened!!!!I know if that had happened to me and my boys I would never go back to that cabin as long as I live!!!Plus alot of the things that happen in the second are similar to the first as well(killing his girlfreind).Thats what led me to believe that it may be a remake in stead of a straight sequel.I would appreciate any info on this.

The first however many minutes are meant to be a recap of the events in the first film. They wanted to use the same actors, but couldn't because of legal problems. I'm not sure of the specifics. The rest of ED2 picks up where the original left off and features Ash, left to his own devices, battling the deadites.

Due to legal BS, Raimi couldn't obtain footage from the first Evil Dead to set up the second one. So he re-shot the chain of events that lead to Ash being at the cabin solo at the end of Part 1 in a slightly different way then how it happened in Evil Dead (budget constraints I assume). So you can say that the set up of Evil Dead 2 (first 10 minutes) is a loose remake of the first and that the rest of the film is the official continuation of the tale, hence a sequel.

I see it as a remake basically. I think it's better than the first.

PS Ok Ash leaves the cabin twice covered in blood saying that deadites killed his friends and his girlfriend. Wouldn't he be arrested? lol
