from cinescape
"Boy, it looked great to me," says Stan. "It's Spider-Man all right." "As far as his personality, it's incredibly close. I mean, Peter Parker is somewhat shy. He's not incredibly popular with the other kids. We have Aunt May, we have Uncle Ben, who dies. I thought the scene with J. Jonah Jameson is really funny."

Okay, lets see...
I think that in a way, Spider-man Can and Will top the box-office for ONLY two weeks being that Attack of the Clones opens just two weeks later. Mean if Spidey has any chance at all it'll be within this time being.
But I for one has higher hopes for this one over Episode II.

Being that Stan Lee created spider-man, i can't really argue with him, but i still maintain that peter parker is just not as quick witted in the film as he is in the 60's comic.
That is one of the downers that i thought Stan Lee if anyone would have spotted and pointed out simply because he is a witty man himself, portraying that in spider-man and always liked to empahsise in the comics how witty spider-man was.

its hard to argue with him, since most authors hate the movies that get made from their books

I'm glad to hear that. But I just hope the movie is good anyway. I love Spider-Man, and if this film sucks, I'm gonna be really pissed off!

I'm glad Lee likes it, cuz he's the one guy who should love the movie and note anything that isn't right about it.
As for the wit, Herc, Spidey is supposed to be very witty -- Parker isn't. And we didn't see Spidey talk yet -- only Peter. (I know it sounds complicated lol) So let's wait and see.

Man,marvel is on the roll right now when you think that a few years back there were no films made about any of their comicbook characters (i am not counting horrible punisher or fantastic 4 that nobody has seen). In future we can see hulk, daredevil and x-men sequel x2 at least.

I'm going to refer back to the ol' 60's comic one more time.
If you actually read them, you will see that it's both Peter Parker and Spider-man that are witty.
You wil read that in the early issue especially he mocks flash thompson with his supreme witt, which gets him so close to a fight with him so many times.

I referred back to my DEATH OF GWEN STACY comic and other old 60s comics I have, Herc, and frankly...

There James you have hit on both the greatest comic book in history and the reason Gwen should have been in this movie.
Imagine how it could have ended. Gwen dead in Spideys arms, the Goblin victorious and a great setup for his death at the beginning of the sequel.
Ah well. Consign that one to great films never made.

You know, SAI, I always thought that it was the best choice not to have Gwen in the movie, because we can't have her AND Mary Jane. But to the opposite, the way you put it, it sounds like it could have had a great dramatic impact...and MJ could've always become Spidey's girl in the sequels.
You just enlighted me, dude. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif
And yes, THE DEATH OF GWEN STACY comic book is what I call the greatest comic book masterpiece ever.
