Finally, schmoes the time has come and it's Die Another Day

"Reuters announced just hours ago that the title for the new James Bond film is "Die Another Day."

The 20th installment of the James Bond franchise is currently filming in England right now. The film stars Pierce Brosnan, Judi Dench, John Cleese, Halle Berry, Rick Yune, Michael Madsen, and Rosamund Pike. Although the script is being kept tightly under wraps, it is known that the story involves a device enabling facial mutation.

The film will be released in November of 2002."

'Die Another Day' - Still not sure how I feel about this title but one thing is for sure, it is a lot better than 'Double Cross', 'Beneath The Sea' & 'Beyond The Ice'. I also didn't warm up to 'The World Is Not Enough' at first either but, like all the titles from the past, I grew into it.
I think it's pretty good. It is in keeping with the Bond tradition. I'm starting to like it already.

DIE ANOTHER DAY?
Sounds good. It has a nice "Bond title" feel to it.

I don't know...it doesn't really sound like a Bond movie to me. Granted, it's better than the earlier titles(Beyond The Ice?), but I really wish they would go back to the Sean Connery Bond Titles(Thunderball, Goldfinger etc.) Those were cool...

This is, more or less, my exact thought.

Die Another Day sounds like a real Bond title to me. Beyond the Ice sounds like a Freddie Prinze Jr. movie to me...

Spending most of my life thus far devoted to drooling over Bond movies I had to comment. I heard it this morning and during the day have contemplated and decided that it is... fucking brilliant. It's the perfect Bond title, true it would be nice to return to the GOLDFINGER and THUNDERBALL styles but we did with GoldenEye and that was just plain crap. Although I must say it is a little too close to TOMMOROW NEVER DIES in the mention of DIE and refernce to another day, i.e. tommorow. THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH was a pure shit title but it's connection to the previous Bond films (what wiht it being Bond's family motto and clearly visible in OHMMSS). As for BEYOND THE ICE, I don't see the problem with it, it's a nice reference to the film. But DIE ANOTHER DAY will do me just fine, I'll go as far to say best Bond title ever in fact. Good work Barbara and co.

whoever said 'beyond the ice' is an ass. it was a title made up by British newspaper 'The Sun' and was never the official bond title. it was never even considered! check sources before posting, asses! however, on a brighter note, the new title, die another day, is fantastic. the film looks cool and i'm already excited!

Hmmmm... methinks zeropointeightone needs to read the rules & guidelines of the board...

I'm a big fan of 007, and I think DIE ANOTHER DAY is a great title - easily the best of Brosnan's career. It has a very Flemingesque ring to it. I was hoping they would use a Fleming title that they hadn't used yet, such as "CASINO ROYALE" or "RISICO," but DIE ANOTHER DAY will work just fine for me!

Dude, I don't know if you know this part but the reason they chose 'Goldeneye' is because it's the name of Ian Fleming's estate in Jamaica. He named it that when he bought it in the early 50's. This is the very estate with which he wrote all the James Bond novels, starting with 'Casino Royale' in 1952.

Yeah, I knew that but the title was still crap. It was also the name of a film that was a biography of Ian Flemmings life, did you know that?

There is a James Bond movie called Casino Royale. It was the first Bond movie. Though it is not really considered it because it is not the same Bond we all know. It was made sometime in the 50’s. There are more then one James Bond 007, that name is like a code name in the movie. They even asks one of the Bonds something like “Were is that sex crazed agent that shares the same code name as you”. I don’t remember much of it, been a long time since I seen it. A friend of mine has it recorded on video.

Yes, you are right, 'Casino Royale' was developed into something in the 50's. The BBC made a 50 minute featurette entitled 'Casino Royale', with James Bond as a character, but it was a part of a 'Mystery Of The Week' type-thing that didn't really flush out the character. It was only 50 minutes long.
In 1967, Woody Allen used 'Casino Royale' as the basis of a spoof to spy movies with Jimmy Bond as an American working for the CIA. It was a comedy and Allen's character was Jimmy Bond's cousin. So nothing really came of Ian Fleming's first James Bond novel, other than the mini BBC production.

'Die Another Day' sounds way too generic and might cause people to look at it like "Just another James Bond Movie" and not take it as seriously as if the title contained something specific to the movie's theme.. but we don't know for sure what the movie is about, so maybe we'll find out soon.. but anything with 'Die' in it sounds like it could be improved upon.

*BUT* I am still happy to see that the James Bond series is still going strong after so many decades.. I wonder who will be play the part of the late 'Q'?

Remember World is not Enough, Q retired and John Cleese took his spot. I guess they knew he was dying when they made the movie.

Many sources said that Beyond the Ice was a possible title. That being said, go read the guidelines, or shut the fuck up.

They couldn't have known he was dying, as he didn't die of ageing, but in a car accident. The reason they had Cleese appear as the to-be replacement was simply because Desmond Llewlyn (hope that's spelled right...) was thinking about retiring. The guy did his job for three decades, after all.

I agree with James Logan - His death was tragic and no-one could have known, but they could see he was getting a lot older and weaker as the films went on, so it was only logical to bring in a replacement at the time they did.

Desmond Llewelyn is a Welshman, like myself, although he covered up his accent for the films (could still hear the Welsh in his voice though).

Oh, I thought he died of cancer or something like that. I did not know he was in a car accident.

i also heard that Halle Berry wanted her character to be name "Cinnamon Buns", but the producers didn't like it. I think that Halle was on to something and they should consider her name. haha, makes me laugh.

Yes, I was aware of the Woody Allen comedy farce titled: "Casino Royale," but it was not an officially sanctioned EON Production, so the title is still up for grabs. The other unused Bond titles from original Fleming stories are:

RISICO
THE HILDEBRAND RARITY
THE PROPERTY OF A LADY
QUANTUM OF SOLACE

Woah - chill out dude. If you're going to show up here and start ripping on people, perhaps you should get your facts straight. BEYOND THE ICE was never the title of a Bond novel authored by Ian Fleming or anyone else. In fact, the only Bond novel with the word "ice" in the title is John Gardner's Bond novel "Icebreaker," which came out almost twenty years AFTER "From Russia With Love."

Also - BEYOND THE ICE was being reported as the official Bond title on many web-sites and periodicals. There appeared to be credence to this rumor when the actress Rosamund Pike's character's name was changed from Gala Brand (a character from Fleming's book "Moonraker" and one of the few 'official' Bond-girl names that had yet to be used) to "MIRANDA FROST."

Like I said, if you're going to attack fellow schmoes, you better have the facts to back it up! Now play nice!
